Which is why I never played it. I'm just not very interested in the story or characters of Mass Effect (at least in ME2, liked the story and pacing better in the first) and the gameplay was so heavy TPS in the 2nd, I just wasn't a big fan.

I just said I liked the first.
Would have been better if it didn't try to go the third person action game route (largely because it was worse than every game that does it). It was more enjoyable as an RPG.

Uh, no. The controls were really tight by ME3 and they brought more RPG elements too. The first was super clunky and tried to shoehorn in a bunch of RPG characteristics.

Yes. Despite what the contrarians on this board might say, it's an excellent game. I agree that the controls for ME2 were a little wonky but that gets cleaned up for 3.

The story gets worse in each game as the gameplay gets better. ME1 and 2 are fantastic games but if you didn't like 2 you sure won't like 3.

I agree, once you understand they made a few HUGE screw ups and just play the game for what it is, it's a fun game.

1 is definitely clunky and the Mako is annoying to drive at times. The story is awesome though and makes up for most of the shortcomings. The graphics hold up pretty well too.
ME2 improves gameplay significantly. I don't really think the story was lacking. The character interactions are greatly improved and they offer a much more in depth backstory for them. They did dumb the conversations down somewhat, but it's not significant.
The best part is the endgame though. The final mission against the collectors was put together perfectly.
