State of Decay

I will be getting State of Decay, Tuesday. I will be working this weekend and from working 13 hours in one day this week, etc, I will be taking Monday to Wedensday off. How far can I get into State of Decay? Any advice on what to do first, etc. I may also switch in and out of Madden to avoid burn out.

Don't rush thru it.
Level up multiple characters, not just one. It's perma death so if your best character dies you need more
Other than that, just play it and have fun. I love the game. Actually started the DLC last night. Didn't get to play though

Thinking about picking this up today. I read a little bit about how the game progresses even when you're offline. How punishing is it if you can only play a couple days a week?
