I know there are some board game fans here. I saw an ad for this one yesterday and it looks pretty fun. Anybody tried it and have reviews? If it's worth the $75 price tag on Amazon I think I'd like to get it.

Apparently it's amazing. My big war fix is on this:

If not for that, I'd get Rebellion in a heartbeat.

But If you haven't played some other modern games, I'd be wary about jumping in the deep end. While probably not too terribly complicated, it's probably more complicated than Risk if that's a comparison for you.

Reviews of SW: Rebellion have been positive. It's definitely on the longer side at 3-4 hrs., which means it may be harder to get to the table.

I thinks it's really about what type of game you want to play. There's so many options now that it's really about finding a game style that you or your group want. If you are set on star wars, there's a number of options (Imperial Assault, Rebellion, Armada) that are different games with SW themes.

Just my 2 cents

Shut Up & Sit Down do a overview and review here

Yeah if I want a Star Wars game, as good as Rebellion looks it's a beast, I'd go with Imperial Assault, Armada or X-Wing.

IA is what i'd go with...my collection needs a skirmish/dungeon crawler.

Loosely based on the 1998 video game of the same name,

Oh God. That damn game.

I played the shite out of it when I was about 12 because I was such a huge Star Wars nerd. It would take days for me to complete a single campaign, and that's with logging mega hours. So easy to beat, too. I did it so frequently I can still tell you how.

Build a mega fleet of Carrack Light Cruisers if you were the Imps, Corellian Corvettes if the Rebels. Slowly advance, planet by planet, until you got a planet where you could build about 6 shipyards. Then start churning out the big ships until your fleet overwhelmed everything. Orbital bombard planets, planetary assault, then diplomacy until loyal. Basically some planets would become resource farms and some would become ship farms. Probably the most inefficient strategy every, but it worked every time.

Yeah, loved that game. I'd avoid conflict for as long as possible, colonize the outer rim, pump everything into R&D and set up half a dozen planets with 10-12 advanced orbital shipyards. By the time we finally got down to fighting the fleets were MASSIVE. It wouldn't be anything to have 150+ squadrons on each side going at it. Not to mention dozens of capital ships on each side. The coolest part though was when you're hunting the galaxy with 5 or 6 of these massive fleets and you stumble upon a freaking death star. Talk about an "oh shite" moment.
