Rolling Stone Article: COD files patent to base matchmaking off of microtransactions

Welp,
This is likely the nail in the COD coffin.
In short:
Patent will build the technology into the Activision matchmaking engine to match players who haven't spent $$$ on microtransactions with players who have purchased better weapons via microtransactions. In an attempt to sway them to purchase supply drops / better weapons via microtransactions
Also, this patent will put players who have spent $$$ for better weapons via microtransactions into lobbies where they will excel with their new weapon. Thus making the player feel their money was well spent and convince the other players in this lobby that they also need to spend money on the same weapon.
What in the frickity frick COD?
Instead of updating graphics or the fluidity of your ancient FPS engine...you are further pushing microtransactions down players throats? Nope, just nope.
I'm out on COD WWII
This is likely the nail in the COD coffin.
quote:
Activision was granted a patent this month for a system it uses to convince people in multiplayer games to purchase items for a game through microtransactions. Why Microtransaction and Loot Boxes Are Destroying Games
Death by a thousand purchases
But Activision tells Glixel that the technology is not currently in any games.
quote:
This patent, though, specifically discusses how that system for pairing up players can also be used to entice a player to purchase in-game items.
"For example, in one implementation, the system may include a microtransaction engine that arranges matches to influence game-related purchases," according to the patent. "For instance, the microtransaction engine may match a more expert/marquee player with a junior player to encourage the junior player to make game-related purchases of items possessed/used by the marquee player. A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player."

It's going to be implemented THAT soon?
And I swear, I can't think of a more skeezy slimy thing to do to make microstransactions ever more despised. And they're not even trying to hide what they're doing. What the hell, COD

WTF?!
So they are building a system that will pair shitty players against good players to make the crappy players purchase microtransactions because their gaming experience sucks?
That is some bullshite sleezy frickery right there.

From that article and other articles related. I don't think it'll be included in this version of COD. But they filed this patent back in 2015 and just got it's patent stamp of approval. So you know they will sneak it in either their next version of COD or an update of this version.
completely slimy.
I mean the COD WWII hype was already low because the graphics look like PS3/XBOX 360 graphics, but this is the cherry on top. They are trying to suck every last cent out of their dedicated fanbase and the kiddos willing to use Mommy's CC to "get gud son". Before they die off due to extinction because they won't update their engine and give the fanbase what they want.

so what they're doing is pairing a shitty/casual player with someone like Rambo?

That is insane, but I almost support this idea just so developers can see just how fast this sort of thing will kill off any chance for a long term multiplayer community.
I don't always blame the developers/publishers for this sort of thing though. Game development is far more expensive than it used to be, resulting in far fewer games and even fewer new IPs.
You can make plenty of games that look good and run very well even on base PS4/Xbox One hardware, but gamers expect graphics, animation, and voice acting that rival Hollywood films these days.

Can't blame them for trying to find another way to make more $$$. It will take people to not buy their games, people complain, or people play the game and make no microtransactions. The only things I've bout for COD games were the map packs, will never pay money for another gun or skin color for the gun. Like a gun someone is using? Kill them and take their gun

you'll need to Gun Collector Perk
that'll be $4.99.
But if you act fast you can get the Gun Collector Perk + The Donkey Punch Perk for an all-time low price of $7.99. Usually $12.34
Don't forget! You can only buy COD Tokens in bundles that end in the #7 or are multiples ($11, $22, $33....)
UNLESS YOU BUY THE COD ALL IN ONE DLC MEGA LEGENDARY VERSION OF COD WWII for $119.99.
(Which includes the ability to purchase COD Points in standard $1, $5, $10, and $50 increments.)
[ BUY BEFORE 12/17/17 FOR BACON CAMO!!!!!
(only on Rocket Launchers and Crossbows; only available for use in Single Player mode; limited supply, first 71 buyers)]

You forgot to add 2 hrs of double xp. And for $19.99 you get 5 new maps (no really its only 2 with the other 3 being maps from other games that are repurposed)

Don't worry, the tards will keep buying COD. That's what tards do.

Not only can they pair you up with someone more skilled to make you want to purchase similar equipment, but after you purchase it, pair you against easier opponents to make you feel like such purchases are worth it.
That is slimy as shite.

shite like this is why I've stuck it out with Nintendo. They may be obtuse as frick and make strange decisions but they still tend to focus on simply making the games fun to play more than any other major company out there.
I do worry that their slow toe sip into the mobile gaming pool will eventually infect them to the core just like everyone else though.

I haven't bought a COD, since Ghost, and i said i wouldn't buy it on here, and at the last minute, bought it.
I'm done
And i used to be one of the tooljobbers who would sit outside Gamestop for midnight to get the games.

This.
Heck microtransactions have ruined basically every X1 game I was planning to buy this year. Super pumped for Injustice and MvC? Nope. Andromeda? Nope. Even Shadows of War's lighter focus on MT's has me checking out.
Trying to "keep up" even ruined Overwatch for me. I felt like if I wasn't playing every day and buying loot boxes, I was losing ground.

You’re an idiot if you play those games on the regular anyway.

I bought Blops 3 that was my last one.
WWII beta's were a blast so I preordered right after. Was the most fun I'd had with CoD since Blops 2.
