Red Dead Redemption II

Purchased this about 3 days ago. Began playing the story mode and to me it was a little slow. The free roam is fun, BUT I guess I'm used to more fast-paced games like COD etc.....The graphics are spectacular and the landscape is beautiful. I guess I'll just have to get used to the game play before I dismiss it completely.

It's a really good story with a pretty slow start. The back half is considerably faster paced. The first half spends a lot of time getting into the ancillary systems and tries to weave them into the story.
Overall, I enjoyed it. But Rockstar created a world I didn't care to really engage with. I just wanted the story, not everything else.

There is a pretty long build up as the game sets all the basics of the game. It does pick up significantly and once you get fully immersed into the story, it is pretty stunning. It is also a great game that doesn't require you to just take an entire day. Spend some time doing what you want, then move on. Tackle things on as you feel like it, then go play something else.
Once you get to Saint Denis things really open up. It just isn't going to be something like COD as far as pace of play. It is a game fully built around its story. It is a great ride.

I had the same experience. Controls were very different than the first one and I don't like these new survival mechanics. I only got about 5 or 6 hours into it before I switched to another game. Determined to force myself to get back into this year though.

Same for me but I don't think I made it to 6 hours.

I like the game, but the exploration aspect more than the story. I really wish I could turn off some survival aspects purely for quality of life.

The hunting alone is worth it if you're into that kind of stuff. It's unironically better than the games that have hunting as their primary gameplay focus.

I just want a zombie dlc like the first one

The game peaks in Chapter 3 and never really reaches that level of engagement again
Island chapter fricking sucked arse

I played it when I had a lot of free time so I guess I didn’t mind the slow gameplay. It’s one of my GOAT games. So much to do

Probably my favorite game of all time.

It took me a long while....probably 10-12 hours before things really started to all click for me and I began really enjoying the game. Before that I had that I had thought about quitting b/c I just could not get into a fun rhythm of gameplay. Its an incredible game though and worth sticking through it imo.

I found this game super slow and boring and had a hard time getting into it, but that’s just my two cents, loved the first one.

I envy you. I wish I could go back and experience it for the first time all over again.

I recently fired it back up after a hiatus and started a new story. I've been doing every side quest and legendary animal hunt as I go.
The only thing that I forgot about that game that bothered me so much is having to ride the damn horse across the map. Sure, I can go into cinematic mode and it'll follow to the objective but then I miss all of the little strange interactions along the way.

The problem I have with RDR2 is that the extreme attention to detail extends to a lot of the gameplay and character animations, meaning the act of "playing" the game isn't really as fun as it could be.
At some point though, you get immersed in the world and in the story, and it's easy to overlook the clunkiness.

Uh - you can:
1. Fast travel
2. Take a stage
3. Take the train
....if you don't want to ride.

I've been playing RD2 for a couple years now but usually get to an advanced point and then refuse to advance the story. It is dramatically different from RDR1-- I've been replaying that and it plays like Wild West GTA: San Andreas. Much more of a spaghetti Western feeling.
That aside, I love them both but know that RDR2 isn't for everyone because it can be very deliberately paced.
