Re-discovered Commodore 64 Telengard

One of the first Dungeon and Dragons game of its kind. I think it was release for the Commodore 64 around 1984.. It has a very cool nostalgic vibe.
Does any one know a pc version where you can save the character and all the stuff you have acquired?
I have been playing a DOS version through the web browser (myabandonware/Telengard) but can't save. I have put sv at the beginning of the characters name and that works but doesn't return your items. I'm not very computer savvy so not sure how to launch with DOXbox as suggested.
Any help is appreciated. Also, any advice or stories would be great as well.

I have it and play it every so often. I used play roulette and teleport until I got to a deep dungeon with loot at the zone in until I got a GREAT item then teleport back to level 1 and progress through the levels normally.
In high school a few buddies would take turns seeing how deep you could get. I have MANY hours in this game. I will look tonight at where I got it and report back.

I find a copy and play from time to time.
I did the same deal of going deep, hoping to FIND a chest trying to loot it praying there wasn't a trap. Getting a +155 sword, then praying I could get back to the teleport cube before being killed.
I also remember the stress of trying to see if the new items was better than what I already had but being too slow to grab the item and watching it disappear.
I would also spend hours at the thrones trying to raise my abilities.
Now the game isn't so hard because I think you can save at any time whereas in the original, you had to make it back to an INN.
Love the theme song.

That's been my strategy too. I think the best things to get are the Elven cloak and boots (say a + 40 are higher) so you can go undetected while you hunt for items and treasure. When I'm in level 50 looking around I have the invisibility charm on to help keep the creatures away but a level 103 Minotaur broke through and killed me before I had a chance to do anything. My character had + 25 to + 50 on everything except for the boots (+4) and wham gone in a flash. The version I'm playing can't be saved so I damn near cried!!

I used to use graph paper to try to map the dungeon.

Yep, graph paper was the best. I wish I still had some of my old maps.
Your character is looking strong. Nice ring and cloak for sure.
I think the key is to get to level 15 which gives you access to level 6 spells. Then you can use the word of recall to bring back your money and items any time. If you use scroll of rescue you lose the money.
I saw this online: Go to level 50 and teleport to level 51. Once you are at level 51 you can teleport down 50 levels at a time. I know you can get down to level 500 and maybe even farther. Pick up some cool + 500 stuff.

Only time I broke out the graph paper was for Bards Tale 3.
Nothing like being in a maze with spin traps changing you direction then getting hit with a darkness spell.

"DND" is what you are looking for in terms of DOS games.

Yeah, BT3 had some pain in arse dungeons in terms of that, particularly in the later parts of the game.
Loved me some BT3 back in the day.

Got I played this game a lot. And Bards Tale. And Ultima. There was also the RTS dragon riders of Pern game. Man, the good old days of Commodore gaming.

I like the DOS version but had trouble saving my progress. Another really good one that you can save your progress can be found at building worlds.com/Telengard.
