I read yours, and I was like "frick you, I meant every time!".

Then I read Croacka's and I was like "that makes sense. I understand taylor's post now".

What would be the advantage to installing it? I understand you have to put like 50GB of shite on the system anyway. Is that just for it to load faster? Does it do anything for gameplay?

Loading faster I guess, and if your disc gets scratched, which is common with my kids, it shouldn't effect anything

Well with the PS4, I think it is required to install most games. But if we were talking about last gen, installing the game meant faster load times and less use of the optical drive. Components with any type of mechanical forces, motion are the components that give out first.

ETA:
I could be wrong about it being required next gen.

That is cool, I guess.

That would suck. After a number of games, you could easily run out of HDD space with just 500GB. Especially if some require up to 50GB.

Blu-ray drive on my 1st gen fatty PS3 went out 6 months into ownership.

My mom is actually getting me the ps4 for Christmas, which is surprising I didn't think she would get me much of anything

Sucks though because I have to wait until Christmas to actually play it. I asked if she would let me have it on the 15th then she could re-wrap it and I could open it later and she wasn't cool with that

The taco bell contest winner got his PS4 and it is DOA. Sony not offering support until tomorrow.

So that makes Kotaku and this guy that have received dead consoles thus far.

Couple other early arrivals having some problems to me.

Makes me kinda glad I won't get one until 2nd batch.

The one Kotaku received wasn't dead, the HDMI port was messed up and they were physically unable to put the cord in. Also, they had another Reddit post where the guy received support from Sony and was shipping his console back. Another person on a different forum was also receiving support from them. Hope my system is fine when it gets here.

Yeah, I saw that one.

So I also had a faukty ps4 shipped to me this morning, when I realized that it wasnt working I called support and this is that account.

I was first connected to a girl called Lauren, she was very nice and helpful and took me through a normal troubleshooting process, when none of that worked she created a full support ticket and said I would receive a call back.

About an hour later I got a call from a guy called Joe concerning my support ticket. He also took me through some troubleshooting before taking me that my console would have to be shipped in for support. He offered to expedite the whole process as much as he could, and apologized profusely for the mistake.

So overall it is a dissapointing day, but I'm at least glad I got good support from the people at Sony, and that it is being handled as quick as possible.

TL:DR broken ps4 was handled by Sony in a quick, yet still dissapointing manner.

Kotaku's problem:

But the first retail unit that Sony provided me failed to work when I plugged it into a TV in Kotaku's office. A colleague and I were able to compare it to a second PS4 that did work and we found that the issue was rather simple: the bad unit had a faulty HDMI jack that we couldn't fully plug an HDMI cable into. It couldn't make a solid connection and therefore, apparently, couldn't transmit a stable signal to our TV. We tried different cables and monitors. The issue was with the console.

I mean it's to be expected, there's going to be some issues obviously.

Hope you first batchers don't get a faulty one.

Didnt they say we should look 450-400 GB of usuable space? A bit of it will be reserved or already used.

This is with 3 games installed. So you get about 408GB of free space.
