Yep, my old fatty apparently didn't like blops2. After loading a multiplayer map it crashed, turned off on its own, beeped a few times, and the red light just kept blinking. I figured it was on its last leg a while back when i noticed the fan making louder than normal sounds and tried dusting/cleaning... but it never really got better.

I realize this has happened to a few of you before and just wanted to poll the board on what's the best option on getting another one and what was your experiences: Send back to Sony? Or try a repair shop? Buy a new one?

Appreciate the input.

For the price of a new one, it isnt worth sending it in to get a refurb. If you can hold out til next week, i suggest getting one on black friday. Perfect time to get a bundle package.

Eta: Im sorry for your loss.

I just bought a new one when mine died, said screw it.

Craiglist probably has some for like 150-200, just make sure it's a slim and you're good to go.

$165 used 120GB slim on Amazon

I appreciate the feedback, many thanks. Just an update for anyone finding themselves in a similar situation (hopefully not) in the near future...

Sony said they would repair it for $99 excluding shipping... So ~$115 total. Their repair 'warranty' is for only 90days. I tried my best to get them to repair it for free as i reminded them they did with my ps2 when it stopped reading discs... but no luck. Heard others were able to convince them... i tried, but unsuccessful.

Called a repair place in the river parishes region and New Orleans... Both were honest and told me their 'fixes' would only be temporary, but the red flashing light is a chipset issue/malfunction. They actually both recommended just getting a new one as well. Their repair costs were about $70.

So after all this, I figured I'll try to scoop up a new one with the upcoming holiday deals around the corner. I was able to turn it on for a bit and retrieve some files which was nice. I recon I'll just have to wait it out a bit. Thanks again for the info. Best,
-lsuap

I repaired mine myself. It had ylod . Traded in to GameStop when they had double trade in value. I got $150 gift card. Went and bought a Super slim. Top loading, looks cheap but not having any issues with it.

yeh, now it just won't turn on at all. since it booted up yesterday, i put a disc in and gave it another shot after some cleaning and checking of the harddrive. immediately after loading the game, it died... never to turn on again. thankfully, there is a youtube video out there to retrieve a disc from a dead ps3 that's really easy.

LSU999 - looked into doing that... I may end up trying to fix it. I saw last year a few places offered to buy back broken systems for a credit around Christmas/New Year's. If that doesn't happen, I might give it a try.

Craigers - heed the wise words of the lyrically gifted, great american rapper juvenile if you haven't already.... 'back that thing up'
