I'm a huge fan of this game on my PS4, I play with some guys all in our 20s-30s and we generally have a blast.

I own the PC and PE and want to check out what mods can do. I watch my 2 daughters watch Stampy and DanTDM and I found Dan uses the too many items mod so I copped that. I'm interested in other dimensions and just generally cool mods that alter gameplay. I just wanna check out what the mod scene has to offer. I like the vanilla version a lot.

Which version of minecraft are you running?

I have a good technic modpack that we used for an open tdgb server. It unfortunately crashed a bit ago and haven't found time to figure out the issue. Putting lots of mods in will usually make it pretty unstable.

Here is the modpack link for technic:

1.8.8 But I'm in the know that you have to go back to 1.7 to run the better mods..just not exactly sure how to do that.

Get a dropbox account and set up your own technic modpack. It's pretty easy if you google it. Technic will install everything for you and run the right version.

Simple explanation is create a zip folder whatevername.zip and put it in your dropbox.

Inside that zip should be two folders, bin and mods.

In bin, all you need is the jar file of forge that you want to use, rename it modpack.jar

In mods, you have to put all your mods and any extra mods needed to run those mods.

Tie the zip folder in dropbox to your custom technic modpack on the technic website. Run technic and install modpack. When you make changes to it in your zip file, increase the version number on the technic website and it will eventually update your game.

Creating a custom game server pack is a bit more of a chore with all the bullshite going on behind the scenes forcing things like cauldron to not be real supported, but you only really need that if you want to run your own server.

Glad I haven't had time to log in recently. I would have been sad and confused.

Some of the mods I always liked:
Biomes O' Plenty
Twilight Forest (if you can run it)
NotEnoughItems (NEI)
WALIA - (if you want to know what you're looking at)
Tinker's Construct
Pam's Harvest Craft - lots more food and helpful if you make hunger more difficult with Hunger Overhaul and/or The Spice of Life mods.

For more in-depth mods you have AE2, or Botania, or Thaumcraft.

It really depends on what sort of experience you're looking for in the game.

You can also check out the ATLauncher and its mods for some ideas. Resonant Rise 3 has a bunch that you can choose from and see if you want to add them to a personal mod pack.

I was going to call you out for being bossy, but people are already taking this thread seriously.

So good luck and have fun.

Dan, I get all that, but what if a mod needs to run 1.7 and all I have is the most updated MC from offical site? does tehcnic allow me to change mc version on the fly?

are you saying if I set up technic like the way you suggested when I run the game it will adjust the files according to what mod version I'm running?

I guess the main question ends up being this, can I run 1.7 and 1.8 mods simultaneously?

If you want to run a lot of the mods, 1.7.10 is really the only option. You can get mods to replicate some of the 1.8 features that are nice.

With Technic, you set the version of minecraft you wish to run with your modpack. You can create several modpacks to run any version you want and build different modpacks. Technic automatically installs and runs the version you set in the modpack.
