I don't disagree about it feeling much different.
For my money, it has (amongst other things) the best original soundtrack in video game history. So high marks from me there. I'm also a huge sucker for tropical locales.

My favorites were soul blade, micro machines v3 and any of the hot shots golf series.
Game breaker was flawed but tons of fun 4 player.

What was the name of the game where you were some dude standing on a bunch of cubes. Some were green, some were black and you essentially had to light up the blocks you were standing on to blow up said cubes. It was almost like an IQ test type of game for the PS1. I miss it. Would love to play it again.
