How do you use game cube controllers for the WiiU? I have some GC controllers. Do I need an adaptor?

Yea. Theres a bundle for the game, a controller and a 4 controller adapter for 100 bucks. I'm not sure how much just the adapter would cost

I can definitely notice a considerable good change from Brawl to this. Big fan of what's been done. My top 5 new characters so far:

1) Bowser Jr
2) Pac-Man
3) Shulk
4) Robin
5) Villager

I like that list a lot.

I'd throw shiek and Ike in too. Ike is much improved.

Haven't played with Ike yet, but that list has mostly to do with new characters. I think if have Toon Link, Samus, and Bowser in the Top 5 as a whole.

I have, and I detoured my grab and shield buttons, but it's not a bad controller for it.

Is this the best game off the new console generation? I think so.

Yes.

On the note about the game being "too defensive." I don't think it's the mechanics or the fighters too much. I've loved Shulk's play and Bowser Jr. is a beast in pressuring opponents.

The problem, and my biggest complaint right now, are the stages. In too many of the stages it's FAR too hectic, so you have to play defensive so as not to get beaten by the constant stream of stuff. For Glory matches are offensive....for the most part. People are scared to take too many risks right now in the game. That will shape up as people get more confident with the mechanics.

For Fun however, will be defensive until they mellow out the stages.

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the stages as well. The Great Cave Offensive is a nightmare and can't see why anyone would play on it. Hyrule Temple is as big as a stage should be IMO (and every Smash game should have this as a playable stage).

But it's really the Metroid stages for the series as a whole. It's just nothing but dark and lava stages. Sure Metroid likes lava, but so does Mario, and you haven't seen then use that as a crutch. Just think that franchise has gotten the shaft with this series, in that either Ridley and/or Dark Samus should be playable (certainly over Dark Pit), and there's a plethora of stages to choose from: Zebes surface, Mother Brain's chamber, Phendrena Drifts, Phazon Mines, Sanctuary Fortress, Ing Hive, Skytown, Phaaze, etc. Using the room where you face the Parasite Queen as the only representative of the Prime series was pretty sad.

Am I the only one who thinks Mega Man is terrible?

I can't seem to do anything with him.

Naaa. There are some very unique characters this year that are tough to play until you "Get" them. Mega Man, Sonic, Little Mac (although, you can understand him quickly). Unique characters that have a significant learning curve. Mega Man is alright, Sonic is out of my range now.

Yeah, played him in Classic at level 6.0, and got my shite stomped 4 times in a row by Master and Crazy Hand, as well as Core before I lost so much I couldn't face him anymore. Played with Duck Hunt Dog after that, and didn't lose a life with the same difficulty.

Have mine coming in a couple days.

I haven't played since the N64 days. I was above average at it.

What characters should I acclimate myself with to start?

Your old favorites if you'd like.

I wouldn't dive into an Olimar, Sonic or Mega yet. Things have changed significantly since the 64 days when everyone had about the same skill ceiling save for Ness.

Marth is probably a good newbie character if you want something different.

Marth and Little Mac.

Little Mac looked cool.

I loved Pikachu and Kirby in the old one (Loved all the characters really).

Is link formidable now? In the N64 version, he always felt very heavy and clunky.
