I was in the middle of a 3rd playthough and was going for a strength build, wanted to try out the FUGS. Had a battle axe when I got to Pontiff and I was way to slow for that fight.

So cool to me how people's experiences differ with these games, but at the end of the day they're some of the best games out there.

I love these games and how the different builds and playstyles lead to extremely different experiences

yep, people have wildly different experiences with bosses based on their own playstyles and builds

people say Orphan is one of the hardest bosses ever but I beat his arse first try (and it was on a NG+ run when I first did the DLC). meanwhile I really struggled with Loran Darkbeast in the chalice dungeon whereas I never really see anyone complain about him

Nah. Just had to pick better windows. I ran Astora's great sword and had no problem.

I settle into habits and have a hard time breaking them. For the most part did a dex build with my first 2 playthoughs and was really wanting to do something different this time around. But I still play the same way and I know that just kills me with fights like Pontiff.

It's the reason I only run ultra greatswords

Once I ran zwei in DS1, I never ran anything else.

I still think the hardest boss for me of all time in any Soulsbornekiro Ring game was Fume Knight.

Most likely because I always play as a strength build and never level adaptability, but as you mentioned, difficulty is usually based on playstyles and builds

I have only played strength builds in these soulsborne games...other than Elden Ring I have only played one playthrough as I move on from one to another (playing them all for the first time ever starting with the Demons Souls remake for PS5). With DS3, I decided to try something different and did a pyromancy/dex build...it's been difficult to change my habits and patterns that I developed by playing as a strength build in every other game.

I watched a Cowboy playthrough running strength with FUGS and it looked fun. Clearly not as easy as it looks.

Has anyone tried fighting her when you first get to High Wall of Lothric? I know it's possible, curious how that turns out

I do that sometimes, the "easy" bosses will cause me to play super sloppy and too arrogantly and I make stupid mistakes over and over. High Lord Wolnir is a classic example of that for me.

I just learned a few weeks ago that you can parry Crystal Sage. After hundreds of hours, I had no idea

I had no idea this was a thing...good lord LOL

For these runs, do you simply throw all souls into weapon upgrades or what? I'm guessing there's only a handful of weapons you can actually use. Can't believe this is actually doable

There are specific weapons viable. You essentially upgrade them and have different elements for different weaknesses.

After three DS1 playthroughs, I gave it a shot. Everyone has their own rules, and I set mine to with what I felt was the spirit of the run - no pyro, no NPC summons, no pendant against Manus, no crazy flippy ring, melee only, all bosses.

Completing it was probably my favorite gaming experience ever.

But I'm nowhere near as hardcore as others. They run NG+7 deathless sl1 runs lol
