I just started Nioh and am curious what some of your character builds are. I decided to go with Axe/Spear. The axe wreaked havoc in the initial mission, so I went with it.
So far, I've been delegating all leveling to stamina, strength, and I think one on heart/body.

Hi-Nezumi Love using this Spirit.
Dual sword/Magic build
Load up on Spirit and skill stats.
Op as hell on groups and Kiting.
Main weapons are Masamune and Toshiro.

Katana, Dual Katana, and Spear are all excellent
Kusari-gama is okay and good in certain situations
Axes/hammers suck arse
Dual katanas are a ton of fun. You'll soon be able to ki pulse your stance switches and string together long combos across all 3 punctuated by a Sign of the Cross, making you feel like a badass

My final stat distribution was:
Body - 17
Heart - 43
Stamina - 17
Strength - 16
Skill - 24
Dex - 10
Magic - 15
Spirit - 18
I did Katana/Dual Swords with spears mixed in. Operated in B agility in medium armor.

Damn, looks like I'm putting way too much into strength and stamina. I have them 17/18 and I'm on the second mission.
