NCAA 14 - PS3 Controls Question

Can someone tell me why I continue to pitch the ball and wind up fumbling so much? For example, I'll return a punt or throw a pass and my receiver will be running in stride and then pitch the ball backwards. Am I accidentally hitting L3? I'm sure I'm pressing the button to pitch, but I can't seem to figure out what it is. I use R2 for turbo but try not to touch any other controls outside of moving the player with the L stick.

I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I have played NCAA for years and have never had this problem.
