My biggest Starfield gripe so far

You can't be enough of a bastard. People mouth off way too often, and Bethesda made so many side quest NPCs unkillable. There were probably 50+ times I tried to just shoot someone in the head and end a quest and wasn't allowed.
Skyrim and Oblivion let you do this pretty often, New Vegas all the time and Fallout 4 a little. Starfield you have to be impossibly diplomatic and it hurts my soul. Every conversation is "polite agreement" or "no thank you but I appreciate the consideration".

Yeah agreed. Seems like none of the dialogue choices actually make a difference in anything

yeah, I'll throw in the companions being too good from the other thread. the future DLC could fix this and have new companions with a little more edge. Adoring fan is the only one who won't hate you for doing anything bad, but he can be so annoying and he's really only good as a pack mule when following you. I had to let him go in this first playthrough.
smuggling and piracy are a huge miss. these activities should be more rewarding and lucrative. there's no incentive to smuggle contraband because you can just sell it at the Den or Red Mile for the EXACT same credits as you would elsewhere. it makes no sense. if I'm smuggling aurora, the price should be way higher in New Atlantis than at the Den, for example.
stealing ships and selling should not require you to register it for 90% of its worth. I'm aware there's a mod for this, but the registration fee should be lower.
one other thing is more quality of life, but the vendor credits issue. I haven't modded yet, but that is one I'm considering to fix.

Ya I found that out pretty early and smh it defeats the entire purpose. The other gripe I've had is how NPCs act completely normal when something major happens right in front of them. In Skyrim they would always react immediately and going forward, but here it just feels hallow like there wasn't any consequence.

That's Bethesda for you.

Yeah, I did one relatively polite piracy and it felt like my whole crew was going to mutiny. They really need to diversify options. Mathis I guess would be a decent alternative, but he's just one guy and he mouthed off to me to where I tried to kill him but the game wouldn't let me until the right time.
Smuggling is dumb because I got like 300 kg of shielded cargo capacity but when I fly in with 5 kg I still only have a 59% chance of getting away with it. So I just have to quicksave and reload.
UC Vigilance pissed me off, I tried to shoot my way out and couldn't kill anyone. People on the Key pissed me off, I tried to shoot my way out and end the pirate threat, couldn't kill anyone. ECS Constant annoyed me, I tried to kill them all and most people wouldn't die.
Genghis Khan was getting uppity, tried to kill him but wasn't the right time for him to die so couldn't. Owen Drexler and Neon Security copped an attitude, too bad couldn't die.
I need mods bad for this.

agreed..
too many times i catch myself wanting just one more reply option...Several confrontations, I just want to leave but you have to agree to move the story

Giggling at this because I got tired of trying to talk my way past the front desk of the company in Neon that had taken my ship so just said "frick it" and started killing my way through.

Plenty of my manual saves are right before I go bananas on an NPC

Quicksave, shotgun blast to the face, they drop to their knees and start panting, entire area goes bonkers, I sigh and reload and play along with their bullshite.
Going to have to replay New Vegas after this to embrace the evil.

I think smuggling/Han Solo life is going to be a DLC.

They've been trying this for a while, no?

Definitely putting guardrails in their modern games. In New Vegas I'm pretty sure you can kill every single NPC except Yes Man and finish the game. I mean you can even kill the Yes Man robot but another one comes back to take his place, he even explains that his program will just take over another Securitron.
