lol. I was surprised it took so long to show up, so I thought I'd share. Great minds thinking alike and all that.

I just saw it. Looks awesome but another late 2014 release probably if it even hits this year.

I hope it does release. Reminds me a lot of the Arkham Batman series with some of the AC free running.

Yea, I was rolling my eyes at first with all the AC and Batman gameplay.

But still looks interesting.

I've been a fan of all LOTR games, so I'm a bit biased. The AI and the carryover from encounters could lead to a lot of interesting subplots and a ton of replay value.

I'm pretty happy to see something in the Tolkien universe that isn't "on-rails" because of the books.

Yeah the news today about this, witcher and elder scrolls online has me so excited about the next fallout. Dont get me wrong I love using swords and bows in an RPG but I love blowing up radscropions with mini nukes a bit more.

Gonna be awesome. I just hope they fine-tuned the gun mechanics. Fallout 3 really needed some work in that are.

A former Ubisoft developer who worked on the first two Assassin's Creed games is claiming that the latest Lord of the Rings game, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, appears to be using code and animations from Assassin's Creed II.

Charles Randall shared his suspicions on Twitter today following the release of a trailer for Shadow of Mordor, a new open-world game set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Linking to the debut trailer seen below, Randall joked, "Check it out guys! I apparently made a Middle Earth game!" He followed this up with a series of tweets expanding on what he meant, first stating, "Seriously, can someone tell me how Assassin's Creed 2 code and assets are in this Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor game?"

Randall said he believes work he did for Assassin's Creed II could be seen on display in the trailer released today, including "code/anim[ation] for sure." He pointed out that he's aware he has no legal claim to his work, but did say he hopes to be acknowledged in the game's credits.

Combat and air assassinations are among the aspects of Assassin's Creed that Randall worked on while at Ubisoft. When it was pointed out the game resembles the Batman: Arkham games more than Assassin's Creed, he responded, "I spent two years staring at AC2. I know it when I see it."

In his tweets, Randall didn't bash Shadow of Mordor; in fact, he expressed enthusiasm for it and the prospect of the Assassin's Creed engine being licensed out to other developers. However, there is as of yet no indication that this is what's happened. Shadow of Mordor is being developed for PC and next-generation consoles by Monolith Productions, the developer of FEAR, Condemned, Gotham City Impostors, and Guardians of Middle-Earth.

IGN has reached out to both Ubisoft and Shadow of Mordor publisher Warner Bros. to confirm Randall's claims and will report back with any information we receive.

Sounds like an attention whore. i did see elements of AC in it but I'm sure this will turn into a reddit joke where everyone says this game will suck because of it.

Holy shite. Stolen engine or not, IF the game can really do the kind of stuff that trailer indicates, well, it could potentially be vastly superior to ACII. The ability for each playthrough to be completely unique sounds amazing. I guess it becomes a question of how many variables are REALLY at play in each instance. If it does something like Mass Effect 3 and essentially removes all of the branching options from your decisions towards the end of the game to fit a predetermined outcome then that will be bullshite.

Randall also tweeted that he hopes this means that Ubisoft is licensing out the Anvil (Assassin's Creed) Engine.

He's not jumping to the conclusion that some of the animations (which are clearly the same) have been stolen. I don't think his interest in this, to the extent of talking about it via social media, is unreasonable.

At any rate, I'm not really interested in another stealth assassination IP even if it is set in Middle-earth. Feels like a waste of the license to me. I'll continue playing LOTRO before I touch this.

You can tell right from the beginning when he's climbing up the side of that wall. Looked like the same exact animations as Assasins Creed. Which this game looks like a combo of that and the newer Batman series. Which isn't really a bad thing. This game could be really cool
