That's not just "pretty cool", that's a "holy shite" device.
Imagine hooking that up to a CAT scan or using it to review the findings of ground-penetrating radar. We're just a couple of steps from a fricking Star Trek holodeck.

I said it in the E3 thread. This is the type of technology that can revolutionize many fields and education.
Product development, medical research, training, etc.
Can you imagine kids putting these on while their teacher is discussing the solar system? Him being able to bring up each planet, dive deeper into its core, show its atomosphere and the way gravity affects each body all in front of them?
Imagine an architect getting to visually walk into the atrium of a new design?
A medical student that is able to project a full size human body to be able to study the different organs and systems. Being able to see and manipulate specific chemistry.
It is amazing technology.

me and lots of other people use their kinect all the time
side note I know a guy that uses a kinect to make scans of someones body so they can 3D print an replica action figure of the person scanned

Kinect may be have some uses but a gaming console isn't one...unfortunately as thouroughly proven the past 2 gens. That isn't to say the effort isnt amazing because MS is definitely trying to innovate.
