I got the game in January 2004 when I was a sophomore in high school. Played it for a couple of weeks, made it to Phendrana Drifts, said "meh" and shelved it.
Started playing it again that summer when I was bored one day and was immediately hooked. Finished it in July 2004 and was blown away. The game really picks up once you get the Wave Beam.
Best part of the game is the Frigate Crash Site underwater. I still remember the date I played through that part. July 5, 2004. Sunny afternoon. Best atmosphere and music in a video game of all time, IMO.
To this day, still probably my favorite single player game of all time. I replayed it again in 2007 and 2011, haven't played it since, not because I don't want to, but because its such a great game I feel like playing it too much would ruin the great memories and experiences I have of playing the game.

It was especially mesmerizing when it came out. It's one of the few titles I was immediately blown away by.

The moment I heard the music on phedrana drifts...that's when I knew it was great

ReCore was on demo at E3. They say it's supposed to have a heavy slice of Met Prime, with same developer.

Yes.
But still not as good as Super Metroid.

I wouldn't call this game a shooter
also, I think that's one of the pros, it's a really immersive game, making you feel like you're samus. there are some moments when an explosion goes off and i'll see my own reflection in the visor. it's fricking awesome.

It also has debatably the greatest graphics of all time. Metroid Prime's graphics are still passable nearly 15 years after its release. That is pretty incredible and is one of the games that has aged the best.

Definitely. It is to Metroid what Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time are to Mario/Zelda.
I'd kill for Nintendo to greenlight another one from Retro for the NX.

The HUD is fine. It's not a shooting game. I'd say its closer to Zelda in terms of solving puzzles and collecting new equipment to further advance on the map.
That's the appeal for me, when you see a door or ledge somewhere thats out of reach and you have to figure out how to get to it.
Metroid Prime would be absolutely ruined by using any kind of guide. This is a game where the whole fun is figuring the shite out yourself.

Super Metroid had some of the best sounds and tones on the SNES.
How long did it take for a play through as a kid? For some reason I remember running through it within 1 night but this seems quick.
Edt: maybe the game was that short. Playtime for most seems to be anywhere between 6-10hrs.

If you wanted to play through that fast maybe. Even the linear storyline seemed longer than that to me. I was a collector and completer so it took me way longer than that. 100% or GTFO.

The first metroid game I played was other m which was incredibly fun as a mindless arcade shooter. Then I played super metroid last week which is an infinitely better game. There's no way I could appreciate that they took the SNES game and faithfully brought it to 3D if I just started with prime
If I jumped right into prime without playing super metroid, I'm not sure I'd fully appreciate it. I feel like I'm making that Mario Zelda jump to 3D even if the game is 15 years old and super metroid is 22 years old.
The graphics are still amazing, and I love the finer details that blow me away even if the graphics are considered dated
From a playing experience it may as well be 2002

I have to say the platforming is particularly impressive. First person platforming is always shite, and this is fricking smooth

Took me 9 hours to beat super metroid
I just really got stuck after getting the gravity suit

I know it was one night. Simply because my drunk Uncle slept over in my room while my cousin and I played through it. That might have started in the afternoon at 530 (dark in winter) and lasted until early morning.
Awesome game and one if my greatest memories.
Prime I never completed on GameCube. Played through some with the dolphin emulator but never finished. Really need to play through this title.
Are there any texture mods for Metroid Prime?
