Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Thread (Next Event: TBD)

LINK - 94% on Metacritic
Hopefully the new people playing the Switch now will be able to enjoy it. It is a sublime kart racing experience.
We had a good consistent group of TD.com players early on. But I travel for work too much and couldn't keep up with the schedule. The Switch certainly eliminates that (but not sure I want to play from the friendly skies).
Looking forward to crushing everyone in Shine Thief and Renegade.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe takes the best game in the series and improves it. It looks better, plays better, the soundtrack remains an utter joy and the inclusion of a fully-featured and fiendishly fun Battle Mode is the cherry on top. This is the best Mario Kart game ever, and it's hard to see exactly how Nintendo will ever be able to improve upon it.

This is how you spiff up an older game. What could have been a cynical attempt to double-dip into Nintendo fans’ wallets actually turns out to be the Mario Kart series’ definitive entry. The racing looks and feels just as great as it did on the Wii U, but the addition of battle modes finally makes it feel like a complete package...Add in the new characters and the Wii U DLC content, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a fantastic addition to the Switch’s early library.

With richer content, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a very good version of the game that will seduce the gamers into buying it for their Switch. We especially liked the new battle mode, and playing it on the go is just bliss.

Have no Switch but Mario Kart 8 was my favorite game of last generation
I loved the 200cc mode but hated how it was impossible to find 200cc games online, as if you just went through normal lobbies it would cap at 150cc. The only way to play 200cc online was through custom which no one did so you would never find anyone to race.
Wonder if 200cc is now a default online mode

Buying it just because there is nothing else on Switch right now.
Need to buy a 2nd damn pro controller now.

Gonna need to add some of you on the Switch. You'll be able to hear my rage then when Frantic Mode is on

I remember for a while ppl here did racing nights. We should bring that back and try the new battle modes. They changed it to be more of an arena like on the SNES. The better mode IMO sucked on the WiiU.
Also looking forward to using some newer Amiibos.

Yup.
I'm almost buying this solely for the battle mode. At least for online, I'll be playing that way more than racing.

Never came across one and the drops in game aren't good enough for me to purchase off eBay for the current markup.
Paid $40 for the Smash Zelda but that is worth it for the Twilight Bow.
That is not my whole collection. Have the lame animal crossing ones, some dubs and japense imports in my closet. Need to build a shelf to display but we are also fixing to build again. So pushing that off.
You collect?

I remember the first night we did a TD gaming board race night on Mario Kart 8 back in 2014, was a lot of fun

what controller do I need to buy to play 2 player? I know nothing about the Switch but will be getting one for MK

Well I recommend always the pro controller but you might not want to buy 2. They are $70 bucks each.

so I don't need a second joy con controller?
Posted on 4/22/17 at 11:59 pm to wope
Yeah but who wants to use those things. Reason I recommend picking up pro controllers.

Best setup is probably one pro controller and two sets of joycons. I think Kart will be fine on joycons.

The only way they could improve it is inclusion of other characters. Like Samus or Cloud or some shite.

Cloud?
That seems like such a long shot for any of those characters to make it on Smash or Kart.

As someone who's only played 8 sparingly on someone else's WiiU I'm pretty stoked to get it for the first time on the Switch.
I want a pro controller as well, but think I may get another set of joycons first. When my son and I want to play we can have two full controllers but if we have people over we can split to 4 easily.
I wonder how many "controllers" can go at once.

As you should be.. it was the best title of the console and can be argued as one of the better console exclusive games not on PC since 2013.
Loads of fun and EVERYONE loves playing Mario Kart.
Edt: Another thing I love about Mario Kart is that you can feel your skills grow with every match. So you have a sense of accomplishment. Once you mastered boosting it is short cutting the track and then learning how to use your specials to combat other players specials.
