Pretty crazy because this guy has been the face of Xbox for a whole generation of gamers.

I've considered Phil Spencer the "face" of XBox for the past few years. I only know about Major Nelson because he gives away free stuff on Twitter on Fridays.

Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, long one of the most recognisable presences on the Xbox team, has announced his departure from Microsoft after 22 years.
Hryb has been with Microsoft since early 2001, initially serving as editor-in-chief for MSN Music before joining the company's Xbox division two years later. As a senior product manager for Xbox, Hryb was focused on helping shape the Xbox Live community experience - he credits himself as being a key contributor in features such as Xbox's Achievement system and party chat - and would go on to become senior director of corporate communications in 2012.
Over the years, Major Nelson - a name derived form Hryb's Gamertag - has been something of a figurehead for Xbox, relaying Xbox-Live-related information to the community and having a prominent presence in its various community focused blogs, livestreams, podcasts, and shows.

This is the only Major Nelson I recognize:

that amount of disrespect being flung towards the major

Was that the guy Angry Joe roasted several years back?

I remember his updates from the Xbox 360 days. Were those within the console itself? My memory is fuzzy…. Now I am remembering how much fun I had playing 1 vs 100.

Forgot about ol Major. He was Mr. Xbox for a long time. At some point around 2017 or so, Phil became the media guy for them instead and it feels like Major got put on the backburner

An absolute legend! Thank you, Major.

It was a joke.
And you Xbox fan boys took it how I expected.
And like others said, I thought Phil Spencer was.

Never understood what this guy did any way. His Twitter account about to be written by AI probably.

He always gave off at best a creepy uncle vibe and at worst a white panel van enthusiast at the local playground vibe.
He was clearly passionate about his role. However, he exuded 90s Microsoft dork energy.

He was a great ambassador for the brand and I see we have PlayStation fanatics pissed off here since Nippon doesn’t give two fricks about the player base here in the States.
