fun stuff, been playing same game continuously for 3+ years or so and still not tired of it

So I got started a few days ago... what is the end game here?
Do you join an alliance and only end up fighting in huge wars occasionally, or is it everyone for themselves and just raiding and pillaging whoever is around you until you get wiped out?
