Yes. Most AAA multiplayer heavy titles will have server issues when they first come out. Destiny had a full on alpha and an enormous beta to make sure things were stable when it launched and the game still some hiccups. A poster a lot smarter than me explained it very well by going to a ton a detail, but it was basically that the servers just can't take the massive sudden hit of millions of people trying to play at the same time for the first time.

It doesn't help that companies seem to be getting forced to release things before they are ready.

I'm willing to deal with it if companies are communicative and putting in the effort to fix things.

Not really, Destiny worked fine opening night and the servers were never down, on PS4 at least. Can't say about others.

But that's what a $500 million dollar budget and a great Alpha and Beta helps with.

CoD AW had some lag here and there but servers never crashed and you could play. Again, another massive title with tons of money albeit no alpha or beta.

Money/budget has as much to do with it as anything IMO.

It's just too bad that they couldn't help make it a good game.

MLB The Show was shitty online on PS3, nothing new on next gen. NBA 2K14 was god awful, but I never saw many issues with 15.

At least it works, and plenty of people love it.

Our first raid attempt almost 3-4 weeks in kept getting derailed because different connection issues. The game had hiccups.

BF4 was a broken mess for almost a month or more. You are basically warned to not create a career during the first 2 weeks after the release of a new NBA2K game because there is a good chance your character will get deleted.

GTA Online was probably the worst.

Not really, yes it's hilarious as all fricks to me, but really nothing to do with this conversation.

Don't get mad most other big titles don't have even HALF the issues Halo does, and don't be an idiot and use Battlefield 4 a launch title, and a PS3/360 game in a next gen thread, as your counter.

I used recent AAA titles that were heavy multiplayer related that I have dealt with personally.

If you can name some major multiplayer games that I have missed then help me out.

Halo is great when you actually get to play it, the issue is just playing it is too big of a pain in the arse right now.

I've just been playing some Co-op legendary of the campaign in the meantime.

There was an enormous thread on r/Games that was like why aren't more people bitching about Halo

You said BF4, a launch title a year ago. I'd like to think there has been progress over the last year, no?

OP is asking in the thread title about next gen specifically, and your other game was a last gen game, so you lost me there.

GTA Online comes out on Tuesday, and it will have just as many on it as on last gen, so I would say that would be a GREAT test.

Off the top of my head, online games that I've played that didn't have any big issues preventing play or ruining play, FIFA 14/15, Madden 15, CoD:AW, Destiny, NHL 15, TLOU:R, Killzone.

Games that did have issues I've played and dealt with, NBA 2K14, BF4, DriveClub, MLB 14.

BF4 was virtually unplayable for about a month, it was so damn bad. But even EA/Dice admitted it was rushed to be a launch title. Games releasing now a year after launch shouldn't be having many issues, there is always going to be some, but not unplayable gamebreaking issues. Just unacceptable.

And again, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with money/budget. I'd guess 343 Industries, being smaller, and just making an HD remake, didn't have a very big budget.

If GTA Online is shite again, gamers should burn Rockstar to the ground. frickers have made so much money and have sworn they learned from the PS3/360 server mess.

It will be the best "next gen" test for awhile. Wouldn't surprise me at all though come Tuesday the servers are down.

On PS3 it was absurd. MP games freezing and shite. Never getting into matches.

I never had a problem on PS4
