I know they won't, but I'd be so happy if they remastered 2 for the current gen.

Glad to see I am not the only person who still loves the shite out of the old ME trilogy.
I had the same experience with Mass Effect - never touched it until about 3 years ago, when I played all 3 in succession, including all the DLC (which is a must, especially for #3) . Was so blown away, I immediately did a 2nd full trilogy run upon finishing the first. That first time through will probably remain my #1 favorite gaming experience until I die.
I actually started a trilogy run about 3-4 weeks ago, my first one in a year or so. In the early stages of ME2 right now. All the critiques of #2 are valid - it does nothing to advance the overall Reaper plot, they went too far in the opposite direction with regards to items/inventory after the overload of ME1, not nearly enough exploration, etc. Also, I was in awe of the opening scene, up until my Shep started to burn up on re-entry, and all I could think was WTF? I still kinda hate the "brought back from the fricking dead by Cerberus" plot device.
All that said, #2 is still my favorite of the series. Story and exploration were better in #1. Combat and actual gameplay were perfected in #3. But #2 will always be the best overall mix.

I had to do a replay of 2 because I got too many people killed in 2.
Thus my first play through of 3 was missing tons of characters.

I'm not sure what is going on with my current play through. Every time we get into a fire fight, my damn companions seem to have walked a few blocks behind me
Could be this...If you direct them to a certain spot, they will stay there until you enter another area at times. I try to keep them on point.

My first time through 2 I went into the SM blind, but with full crew loyalty. Made a poor choice right off the bat and got someone killed at the first opportunity (Tali, I think). NOPED back to a pre-SM save and made a better choice, and luckily guessed right from there on out, so I had everyone alive in 3.
Kinda shitty to not live with my bad choice, but there we no way in hell I was gonna let a key NPC, and original ME companion, like Tali remain dead for 3. Glad I didn't - the Citadel DLC is not the same without a full crew.

I had to put keybinding in there because someone would have.
I didn't care for the mako missions in 1 either, I do agree they swung too far in the other direction on the equipment meter. I tried to play 1 again and damn that game starts SLOW, the first time I ever tried to play it I quit because of it, it wasn't until a year later when I pushed through I found out how good it was. I'm hoping to get through 2 & 3 before Deus Ex hits but I have a birthday party this weekend and a wedding in KC in two weeks so we will see.

I didn't even know you could explore other planets on the Mako in ME1. I kept following the main story until I inadvertently passed the point of no return. ME1 is extremely short for an RPG type game if you skip the side missions.

It being backwards compatible is as close as it's gonna get I imagine

This is a miss conception, I do not rush the story and if you look at my play times for completing games they are on par with others. I think I just have more play time with no kids or a wife.

Lies!
You tend to complete games in 20 hours that take me 100.

I agree that the plot of ME2 is weaker than the other entries due to the lower stakes (ie. Collectors vs Reapers). For me, the strength of ME1 is the world building and exploration. ME3 made me feel like I was really in a war for the survival of the galaxy with the huge battle sequences and resolution of longstanding plots. In between, the smaller scale and focus on characters of ME2 is a nice change of pace, especially when doing a run through the whole trilogy.

It was great, to bad they had to frick it all up with ME3.

I thought it was great until the ending.
ME3 was dark to me.Playing cold blooded renegade couldn't be matched. From Killing numerous crew/ex crew, to causing people to commit suicide. Psycho Shep.
