I just paid $15 for the Ubisoft games...I have never dealt with Uplay but I have heard bad things.

Honestly, what's so bad about it? In my experience, not really worse than Origin, but my only experience with it is when I would launch Ubisoft games from steam.

Like Origins I don't have any problems anymore, it used to be awful though.

The fact that I used a code for a free copy of one of the Assassin's Creed games and it never registered it to my account. Or the fact that it lost all of my saved progress on Far Cry 3. Just really buggy.

Will a Uplay key allow me to download those games directly to my Xbox, or is it PC-only? I looked at the uplay faq on Ubisoft's page and it doesn't seem clear on this question.

No, it was a shitty game design that had no restart option in the game itself, it wasn't a Uplay issue.
