also, if you hold the playstation button, there should be a side menu show up on screen. i think it's devices that you navigate to and you can select your microphone.

When you load up the PlayStation Home Screen, press X, X, O, O, select, then START, a menu will pop up.

Go to settings, config, user settings, and make sure the third circle from the top (mute home user) is NOT selected

Flip the mic arm down and mic up the volume.
