We bought my kids a PS4 for Christmas this year.. boy were we in for a shock being out of the gaming world for a few years. Apparently there are some games that are "ONLINE ONLY" and you must have a PS Plus subscription to play them even though you already "bought" the game. In my older PS3 days most games had a regular game play option and an online game play option.

I had a few questions for you experts out there:

1. Are there a lot of games like this that are ONLINE ONLY? Is there a list of these games somewhere?

2. Are there any "Kid Friendly" FPS games that do not require online access to play? (COD BO3 had WAY too many obscenities for my 8 year old... hahaha)

Off the top of my head I don't know one FPS game that is kid friendly and 100% offline

Now the Lego games are a hoot for kids and I believe can be played offline.

Titanfall 2 has a pretty good offline campaign. It's got an M ESRB rating but I don't remember there being anything too raunchy during it. You can get it for like $30

From the ESRB site:

quote:

Rating Summary: This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of a militia pilot through missions on an alien planet. As players traverse various battlefields, they use machine guns, shotguns, grenades, rockets launchers, and mechanical battle armor (Titans) to destroy robot sentries and kill enemy soldiers. Battles are frenetic and are accompanied by realistic gunfire, radio chatter, and large explosions. Some weapons cause enemies to explode into large sprays of blood and chunks of flesh; large blood stains will sometimes appear on walls and floors. The word “sh*t” is heard in the dialogue.

Yes they are all awesome and they are all on the Wiiu. Nintendo is still the gold standard for little kids gaming needs.

Umm what kid friendly FPS is on the WiiU? Pretty sure Overwatch skipped over Nintendo along with every FPS released the last three years.

Also it will never get another one.

I don't mind all the blood and guts for my kids... i'm not that sensitive... Which is why I bought the PS4 game pack with COD BO3. I figured he would love the game.

The sexual content on the opening scene for the zombie mode was a tad over the top for an 8 year old... I was pushing every button on the controller trying to stop it or pause it or skip it... my wife gave me that look that Like I knew it was coming and chose to ignore it... ROFL

I love how we have moved as a society. Watching people get blown up and split stem to stern? No big deal. Fine for kids.

One titty or an arse cheek? Sorry, kids can't watch.

We do go hunting and they understand what war is...

We don't go to titty bars...

Understand now?

You also apparently buy gaming systems without researching them.

A vast majority of game's require internet to get full playability. This isn't even a new trend lol.

I argue that watching graphic violence is much more harmful to children than seeing the naked human body. I guess that's just me. If I had to choose between my kids watching an isis execution video or looking at a playboy photo shoot it wouldn't be a choice at all. As a society, we are much more forgiving of entertainment that has violence than sex. That's my point.

Different strokes.

It's not like his boy won't be watching porn in a couple years anyway.

When I talk about "Blood and Guts" I'm talking about wartime footage on a sniper game or a shooter game...

I'm not talking about ritualistic murder or ISIS execution videos.

I did have to explain to my son what water torture was yesterday after playing COD... haha.

You are correct sir... I didn't do much research on the console... Really just made a decision on XBOX or PS.

I've had a PS1, PS2, and PS3 since they came out... So I naturally gravitated towards the Playstation product. It's just been a couple of years since the PS3 was played regularly because the Blu Ray reader went out on it.

The kids asked for a PS4 for Christmas so we got one for the family. I don't normally do a great deal of research for a $300 purchase that only has 2 choices.

I certainly didn't research all of the game titles and each game's requirements... that seems a bit overboard if you actually do that... My wife saw the Plants Vs. Zombies game at Toys R Us for $15 so she picked it up thinking they would enjoy it because they have it on the Ipad. She didn't know it was ONLINE ONLY. Maybe we are just getting old.

Lol no problem.

It's just like how people freak out about big arse patches or updates for games you have on disc.

It's changed over the years.
