If you're into the retro gaming and do the youtube/podcast thing, you might be familiar with the Pat the NES Punk. Pat does a podcast (the CU Podcast) with a guy named Ian, and Ian is having some major medical issues. He has put together a gofundme for the current and ongoing costs that he's enduring (he is also currently uninsured). I'm normally not one to post things like this, but I figured that this might get the attention of a few on this board. Read the story on the link, if nothing else. Do what you can, if you can, as every little bit helps. I would also like to point out that I do not know any of these people personally.

Also, feel free to share with anyone that you think might take interest in this. And to the admins, if this sort of thing is not allowed, please remove.

Oh that's rough. I listen to this podcast, so I will consider donating. The $13,000 he has already raised would almost be enough to cover a surgical procedure nevermind tests of which that money would cover multiple medical tests likely without dropping below the 5 digit mark. It is different though when you factor in the cost of living in CA. This is why even young, assumingly healthy people need to purchase health insurance. I went through a similar issue last year. I had health insurance through my employer but the point being, you never know when something will happen to you. I won't lie though that it's a little bit disconcerting when he's using his youtube popularity to get people to give him money to help pay his medical bills. Any normal guy wouldn't be so lucky as to have an audience of thousands of people to draw help from.

I think Ian's struggles do represent the failure of our medical system though. If you do not have an easily diagnosed issue, this is the treatment you get for months/years on end. Doctors are only willing to treat symptoms, tend to gravitate to the quickest, easiest to treat diagnosis and put you through a battery of expensive tests repeatedly yet still fail to find an adequate explanation for your issues. It is situations like my issue last year and Ian's issue that make me realize that with all our modern medical knowledge, how little we still know about the human body.
