eurogamer report
Digital Foundry report on nvidia tegra chips being used

While everything is still a rumor, this is a much more credible rumor that makes sense

quote:

Nintendo's upcoming NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers, a number of sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.

quote:

Then, when you get home, the system can connect to your TV for gaming on the big screen. A base unit, or dock station, is used to connect the brain of the NX - within the controller - to display on your TV.

This lines up with the rumors we have heard so far. I don't think this is a bad idea at all if the price point is right.

quote:

Due to the radical change in hardware design and internal technology, we've been told by one source that there are no plans for backwards compatibility.

So don't sell your Wii U yet
quote:

Previously, however, we've heard reports of various Wii U games reappearing as updated NX ports - Splatoon and Smash Bros. have both been mooted. And then there's Pikmin 4, which Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to Eurogamer just over a year ago.

Very possible they will port any game worth a shite over and I wouldn't blame them.

quote:

One element worth pointing out is that the move to a completely new architecture will have backwards compatibility ramifications. Tegra technology would have no problem whatsoever coping with existing virtual console emulation (and indeed, the X1-powered Shield Android TV is one of the best emulator boxes on the market) but running Wii U titles may be a stretch too far.

It makes sense. This is why PS4 can't play PS3 games. I think it's more important to get virtual console running on there and give it real support. They also need to let virtual console games carry over and not frick people who invested in them.

How could a hand held possibly have this?

It would have to be huge?

Think of an Xbox surface and fold it into a box. Plus they are using smaller architecture

Tegra? In what, the handheld?

I hope Tegra isn't in the console. Should be a full desktop or mobile chip, Pascal can get you under your TDP with great performance.

Edt: This is garbage.

are we not going to talk about the system using cartridges?

maybe you guys already did that and it was too technical for me

it's being praised by most as a move forward since games are outgrowing discs or something like that. I guess that's why I have to download the app from the disk to play the game on my ps4.

unless the nx is really going to have it all, 1st and 3rd party titles, and be a leap forward (like when ps5 comes out it will be on par or slightly better graphics than nx) I've purchased my last console.

The 3ds has some pretty awesome games

3 remastered 64 games - both Zelda titles and star fox
A link between worlds
Street fighter
Kid Icarus
Resident evil
Mario 3D land
Resident evil
Luigis mansion (addictive as shite)

And there's a square title I'm going to play that looks good when I'm done with what's on my plate

Admittedly I haven't played resident evil or kid Icarus, and I've only gotten to 1 of the remastered 64 titles, but I'm loaded up for a while. The reviews are good. Luigis mansion has been the most fun I've had in a long time

I don't really have any opinion on the cartridge. A handheld wasn't going to run blu rays. If the store is halfway decent I would get them digital anyway.

I just found that interesting that what went from being outdated and obsolete is now the future because CDs have reached their capacity

I don't know if that is true or what they were conveying, but it was an interesting thought nonetheless.

I imagine that a non standard thing like that may be a nightmare for developers and more expensive to manufacture.

the future is digital, they just aren't abandoning the physical market. Discs haven't reached their max but they wouldn't fit in a handheld unless there is a smaller form factor I am unaware of. I don't know that this is better than other technologies but I don't really see an issue here. If this was for a normal console it would be dumb.

My big question is -

Is this the future of Nintendo home consoles?

And if so that's ok, but I want to know before I invest. I don't buy or like Portable consoles, but this would be huge if it is powerful enough docked to be a home console, but also be a bonus on the road.

I don't mind the cartridges for collecting but damn downloading is so much easier.
