But how DARE Microsoft make a console that needs to be online once every 24 hours. The majority of the major games people play require online connectivity anyway, so what is the big deal

You're the exception to the rule.
So is your console ever not online?
sure when i want to watch hbo go or a movie on netflixs. All my gaming is offline. Every bit of it.

So... You disconnect your console from the internet unless you are using HBOGO and Netflix ?
You don't download updates for your games ?

We don't ship a game at EA that is offline
So strictly online games are a negative for me.
No single player, no buy. . .for me at least. My son plays some online. . .but I can't get him off of Minecraft or Roblox

Fwiw my Internet was down the other day and I was only able to play single player offline.
That's maybe the second time in five years it was down tho

The ridiculous part of the Internet going out argument is that it has to be out for over 24 hours.

Same. There are a ton of people who don't play football online.

I just like pointing out that people are largely bitching just to bitch.
Or maybe I don't game every day so I'm not going to take time out of my day just to sign in because of Microsoft's shenanigans. What if I go out of town for a few days and don't take it with me? What if I just don't feel like going online? What if I go off the grid? What if I buy my games just to play them offline?
Stop knighting bruh.

Not how it works. When you turn on the machine it checks in.

Why do you care if you don't turn it on?

This thread just shows how little people actually understood the original policy.
MS definitely deserve some blame for that, but some peoples inability to understand certain things is ridiculous.
Do people honestly think their Xbox One would have bricked if they didn't turn it on every day?

This is one thing I hate with gaming today. Why do we continue to play to the lowest common denominator. I realize it would suck for some of these people, but should we really allow it slow down progress in the future of gaming.
Especially since the majority of the bickering about such policies are being done by people who obviously would have no issues with actually following these policies.
I think your comment on 360's may be flawed though. Is this people who never actually plugged in or bought a 360 and never purchased a gold account?

This the number of consoles sold - the total number of Gold and Silver accounts ever created. So, the number is actually higher considering that you can create infinite accounts on a single console.

Because that "lowest denominator" is still important. They still buy games and ignoring would lose any chance of them becoming more active customers for you in the future. I also think it's a gross exaggeration to say those without reliable internet are holding back the future of gaming.

I realize this, but it just seems console gaming is the only technology related market that does this.

i know it wouldn't brick but my understanding was that the games you owned would be lost..... so basically brick yeah.... lol

Right... they would magically be deleted just because the machine is sitting there powered off.
You could leave the machine in a closet for a year. Plug it to the web, turn it on, and presto... all your games.

Then you may need to work on your reading comprehension skills.
You just wouldn't be able to play these games if you had not signed in for 24+ hours. Once you signed back in all of your games would be there ready for you to play. Since the speed required to do the check in was so slow, you literally could've tethered your phone to do it.
My issue with it was the window just seemed to small. I feel like they should have set it to something like 72 hours to a week. That or worked on having an offline mode like Steam has.
