The Electronic Entertainment Expo has been officially ended by the Entertainment Software Association. After the cancelation of E3 2023 due to a lack of interest from the gaming industry, the future of the famous convention was already in jeopardy, and this recent announcement is the final nail in E3’s coffin.

E3 had been seen as the most important convention in the gaming industry for decades. The event started back in 1995, and it remained strong up until the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when all in-person events were shut down, stopping the convention from happening. After the online version in 2021, and then cancelations in 2022 and 2023, as well as the rise of viable alternatives such as the Summer Game Fest, rumors regarding the cancelation of E3 2024 and 2025 started to surface.

They went wild with Covid fears over the past few years and those of us that use to tune in realized we can easily get all the info from countless other people

Didn't help that all the big publishers basically made their own mini E3's.

Shouldn't have lost their minds during Covid and the year after.

It’s a little sad to lose an event that brought the gaming world together. I’ll never forget the Elder Scrolls 6 reveal and the subsequent blueballing though.

The original Twilight Princess reveal still hits to this day. That crowd went completely apeshit.

Early access/data mining/leakers/betas getting streamed or uploaded killed a lot of the soul in gaming. Genuine surprises are so few and far between now and I think that goes hand in hand with events like this taking a backseat.

Since it seemed largely to be a consumer facing conference that showcases new products, that model was largely dead after social media took off. It is relatively easy for companies to reach their audiences by pushing trailers/presentations to all the various content platforms.

E3’s Covid Karen bullshite only hastened their demise when publishers realized they could still peddle their wares effectively via other means.

It's the end of an era, to be sure. I agree with most that it's a relic of a bygone age in today's technological climate, too.

thats the real problem. its not. it started and largely was a tradeshow for people working in the industry.

Those people slowly started devaluing what they got out of E3 and when it needed to try and pivot to a consumer style show, it didnt know what to do.

PAX is a mostly consumer driven show and is still doing great.

Globalists managed to kill E3 too. Sad.

I always enjoy Square-Enix's presentations. Not that we still won't be able to access them in other ways, but it just feels like another end of another era.

This sucks.

E3 was the only good thing in June, now the month belongs to nothing but the gays.
