Have had the controller about a year. yesterday I noticed it was no longer charging (no orange light). Tried different cords and different USB ports to no avail. Anyone deal with this? I really don't want to have to buy my third controller for this damn console. These things are POS's.

Happened to me several times
Use a small pin and press the tiny reset button on the back for like 10 seconds then try again
This has worked for mine

Do I need to have it plugged in while doing that? Appreciate the suggestion.

Dang I have only had one issue with the controllers. I bought one used from game stop and the rt stick would get stuck. Just swapped it out for a diff one and have not had any issues. The ps4 controllers are top notch.
One thing I would notice with my other Playstation's and the dual shocks crapping out on me was seeing how much abuse the controllers receive from others.
Like playing Fifa for instance, my friend would just throw the fricking controller on the ground when he got pissed. No wonder they break.
And if you do end up needing a new one. Buy from Amazon. They are $49.00 new on there. That's a great price.

I don't mishandle the controller by any means. I also have an Xbox one so my gaming time is split between those two consoles. I like the feel of the DS controller but I only had to buy 2 controllers for the life of my PS3. My first DS had a problem of L3 stopping clicking down (running was a huge problem). Now just total loss of any power. I wish PS would make a "elite" version like Xbox did. While it is expensive, it is the nicest controller I have ever used.

Internal batteries suck.
I turned down the brightness on the light and it still feels like mine has such a crap charge.

If you still have a PS3 controller, take out it's battery and put it in the PS4.

As much as I like the ergonomics and the feel of the controllers, I have had bad luck with them.
I have 4 total controllers. 1 has a bad thumb-stick and I cannot move forward with the stick pressed in. This means in most games I cannot run forward. Another one has charging problems.
I didn't know about the button on the back. Will definitely try that....

Weird. Haven't had that issue. I've had my launch controller's rubber thumbsticks rub off. No mechanical problems yet.

This ^. Sony definitely needs to fix this issue.

They did. Bought a new controller last Christmas and it hasn't worn at all.

I don't know if I just have horrible luck or what. But it is very costly luck.
Been using my vita as my controller...
