DOTA 2 Grand Finals doesn't even have 400k viewers total on Twitch.

I know it's on ESPN3, but League's World Championships had over 3 million viewers across 6 streaming platforms, including over 1 million alone on Twitch. I think this pretty much settles the debate on whether or not Dota 2 is going to overtake League.

Dota 2 is considerably less popular than LoL and that probably won't change. I'm not quite sure why that even matters to Dota fans.

A - I doubt the 400k number is accurate. There were multiple streams in different languages to account for.
Like anything you always compare where you are to the top spot in any sport. LoL is the dominate eSport in size, so yea DoTA2 uses that as the bar for viewership.
However, that doesnt mean we want the LoL players. DoTA2 players are perfectly happy with the state of the game, availability of games when you want them, and the content Valve and Lord GabeN has given to us. As made obvious by the TI4 prize pool.

As a DotA player, who gives a shite?
It would have been a surprise if it had more viewers than LCS.
The only thing I care about is a thriving competitive scene and that valve does well, both of which are occurring in spades.

I never got interested in watching Dota because every streaming I watched was Russian or Eastern European and I couldn't understand what they were talking about.

quote:They were accounted for. DotA didn't have 400k viewers TOTAL across the entire game on twitch. That includes streams that weren't even the Grand Finals that were going on at the same time. But this is for Twitch only. I'm sure there were more viewers across other platforms, but for something to be an international final, it was underwhelming in terms of viewers for sure.

Your Arkansas insecurity is showing

I have never even seen/played/watched more than 10 minutes of either game, but isn't a $10 million purse ($5 million to the winner) huge?
Are the normal purses equal between games. I think this matters more than how many people are watching a shitty tournament.

Negative, the quality of this game based on OP is purely the number of twitch users viewing. You completely discount how many were watching higher quality (resolutions) in their game client that offered DVR like features that twitch can't. Additionally you have to discount the fact that it was also simulcast on youtube and some really obscure website called ESPN3 ..Which is notorious for not being able to support vast amount of viewers way better than Twtich..I mean who the frick wants to watch the Grand Finals on the same infrastructure that the World Cup was streamed on when you can watch on Twitch.
THAT is where you measure you E -Dick.

quote:It's the first tournament they've ever had with a purse this large. Most of the purse came from fanbase donation. Tourneys are few and far between as far as Dota is concerned. League has a season for each region, regional playoffs, and then world championships. It's a bit different in that respect. It's not tournament based like it used to be. There's qualifications, a regular season, and playoffs.

quote:Your butthurt is showing. I was strictly comparing twitch to twitch. I even said this only accounted for twitch and that it was being streamed on other avenues as well. Even so, Dota's viewer numbers aren't even touching League's. Which is ok. More people watched the League World Finals than watched the NBA Finals.
