Okay, it was really a couple of weeks ago. Unlike PC and PS players, XBone is on its own server (yes, PC and PS were merged) and apparently the demand was so much greater than what Daybreak was expecting that they've more than doubled the amount their servers can hold and greatly increased whatever resources they are using for logins.

No word on actual population numbers though.

It is a fun game so far. I just started on PS4 when the news came out about XBONE and it reminded me that the game even exists.

I got 3 toons to lvl 10 trying out different powers / weapons.

Free to play - worth at least trying out. I liked it enough to buy a membership for one month.

I've been playing and enjoy it.

What's the benefits of being a monthly member?

Access to all DLC Packs (including powers and weapons)
150 Free Replay Badges every month (also 500SC if you are on PC, no idea for console players)
Unlimited Prometheum Lockbox Unlocks
Unlimited in-game currency access
More Inventory Slots
Free daily Vault Access
Ability to form your own League
14 Additional character slots
20 Broker slots
36 Additional Bank slots
Ability to trade items and cash
For PC players (again, not sure on console) you also get a 10% discount on all purchases from the Daybreak Store (on top of whatever specials they are running).

I think there is also a timer on chat text in public channels (or at least there was at one time). Not so for members.

The drawback though is that if you cancel your membership you lose access to any content you haven't purchased separately (ie: DLC packs) and if you have too many characters you'll have to choose which to keep and which you will lose access to (although I don't think they delete them, you would just have to buy the extra character slot).

I have a lvl 12 ice/ 2h hero that I like, but I hear 2h is kind of a hindrance and I hear that tanking is all taunt then block while shields are up for ice. I would rather be a little more active and feel like I'm kicking arse more than acting like a turtle.

Would Atomic be a better choice? What weapons jive with tanking the best?

The level 1-30 game is really just a biiiiig tutorial designed to get you used to using weapons, weapon combos, powers, Weapon Mastery & Advanced Mechanics and many other aspects of the game (as well as learn some fun info about the DC Universe). In other words, don't get too hung up on playing the flavor of the day powerset and/or weapon until you hit level 30.

Ice is a good tank power but with the countering mechanics you kind of have to be on the ball to avoid getting your shields dropped. If you enjoy Ice and want to stay with it then I would say learn to start paying attention to the combat mechanics. Once you get them down you'll be able to do much more melee'ing and far less turtleing.

There are a couple of guys in my league that switched to Atomic and freaking LOVE it. I've been Fire since the day the game went Live (was Mental in Beta) so I know it (and enjoy it) a little too much to change.

Weapons are fairly balanced so weapon choice is primarily what you like and feel most comfortable with. I've used Staff since Beta and enjoy it. If I were to change for something that might feel like I am doing more DPS in an Ice Tank mode I would switch to maybe MA, HB or 1H (ie: something that's faster than 2H, which is pretty much anything ;) ). In the meantime, if you aren't doing your weapon combos already then learn to do them and do them as often as you can (combos do more damage the deeper into a combo you get).

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks. I got an atomic / shield to 8 but I did not really like shield even as cool as it looks. Deleted him. Guess I'll do another.

I think I'll go to staff and try to make it fit my "found a suit buried in New Mexico with atomic powers" themed character.

Might even go Villain with him.

If slow is bad, I guess Brawling is out too huh?

Yah. Brawling is like 2H in that you trade speed for greater damage. I enjoy it when I am playing Bizarro for Legends, but that's about it. That slow of a movement would drive me crazy if I were tanking with it.

Shield is fun for PVP because unless your opponent is experienced in PVP (they know what to look for) then the default stance looks so much like the blocking stance that it's hard to tell the difference between the two

OK... well I guess staff it is.

Hand Blast seems appealing too and fits with the theme too.

Is HB viable for Tanking?

For tanking, you want your base weapon to be one you can max out health and defense (depending on your powerset), then you want your WM to be able to provide the right balance of health and dps.

SPs are far more critical than anything else.

Yes and no. At his level of the game, sure. Once a tank his 30 though they shouldn't be bothering with worrying about their DPS. The stat a tank wants to look at at the end of the raid/duo/alert/Op is Damage In and see how that compares to what the rest of the group took in.

This pic is from a couple of years ago (around when Origin Crisis came out... maybe?) but it shows what I mean...

My Damage in is just over 5x what the person with the 2nd highest had (a healer who used to be a tank who would forget she was a healer :p ).

Depending on the powerset a Tank will want to focus on Dom, Health (in that order, depending on powerset) and Resto (there are no exobyte mods for Defense).

It's similar for SP. In the pre-30 game the CR (Combat Rating) of gear is limited by your level, so SP is the only other way to make a young character more powerful until they level. Also, the stat increases are good enough for those levels to really make a difference.

Once a character reaches 30 and starts working on Tier gear though, that changes quickly and CR becomes the priority.

**For those that don't know, CR is kind of like a level for gear (and level of your character post-30). The higher the CR of the gear, the higher your overall CR and the more powerful you become versus an enemy of whatever CR.

Aside from the 70 or so needed to unlock all the % increases in all of the weapon trees, a player is much better off focusing on CR as the priority and SP as the secondary. Don't get me wrong, every SP helps but and extra 5 Precision at CR 135 isn't going to be nearly as big a boost as what they'll get from that next piece of Tier gear.

I honestly hate that the game has changed so that this is the setup now (and the Devs have been talking about changing it back so that SP matters more once again), but it is what it is.

Playing on XBone? They are still trying to catch up to the demand by adding more nodes. I think they've already more than doubled what they had when the game went Live on XBone.

The login queue goes like this:

1. Highest priority are subscribers
2. 2nd are Premium customers (people that have spent at least $5.00 on the game, like buying a DLC, powerset, etc)
3. Free players

Seems pretty fun. Lag kills me but I took off the aura and my cape and it seems to have fixed it.

This is only my second shot at an MMO ever and I have no idea what strategy I should be using. I am a dual pistol with heavy weapons or whatever the term is. Only a lvl 10 so I just started
