Yes, after doing what Carson said you have to kill the first cystall golem in the dukes archive to grab the pendant it drops. Then you can jump through the black hole behind the hydra

I just invaded some guy in duke's archives and couldn't find him, so i went down to crystal caves. he's getting attacked by the clams and is backing up in retreat, and i just stand there till he's right in front of me and i backstab him

Its actually a really fun game. It is medieval-esque with demons, skeletons, undead, etc.
The gameplay is actually very simple, but how you implement the gameplay for each boss/enemy is incredibly complex.
Its pretty much an open world RPG that you have to learn and discover on your own.
