We are basically stuck with Cox as our internet provider and while the actual service works well for us we are facing the data caps and high fees because of no competition.

Does anyone in the Baton Rouge area use Tmobile 5G(or other 5G provider) as their home internet and game online? I'm worried about the connection quality and latency. Most say that movie streaming etc. is fine but gaming not so much.

With Gamepass/Playstation Plus game downloads along with 4K streaming we are currently forced to have "stream free" night towards the end of the billing period and the $50 Cox charges for unlimited will just rub salt into the wound with the already high price.

Just ran a speed test on our back up Tmobile 5g network. 82/7 is what I got. It will go down to 25-40 during peak times but still plenty fast enough for the kids TV's and video games. I have cox 500mbs service but to stay under the cap I either have to pay $50 for the unlimited or $25 for the T mobile 5G box to put the kids stuff on. It's really the kids streaming that eats up data, without the kids the Cox "limit" is pretty generous.

Thanks for the reply, it never occurred to me get both was an option. It would be nice to have a backup and not worry about overages.

We are averaging 30-40GB a day and the other day hit 307GB when I downloaded COD Cold War and Alan Wake. 25% of our monthly cap in 1 day so something definitely has to change.

Have you looked into Starlink?

I have but the price/performance doesn't look too good. I'm jealous of the people you see with unlimited 1GB Fiber connections for $50-$75. Hopefully as 5G buildout and maybe a fiber company moves in there will be enough competition to squeeze Cox.

Only problem I've ran into with T-mobile 5g internet with gaming is Latency. I had it right after Ida as everything else was down for awhile. I'd get decent speeds, but the Latency killed any kind of gaming experience. It's perfectly fine for normal browsing and streaming depending on your connection strength.

Vexus fiber hasn't made their way into BR area yet? I've had them for about a year in Mandeville and it kills ATT/charter/cox.

That's what I was worried about.

Not to my address at least. I'm in an internet black hole. Cox is it for me and to get a 1Gb unlimited connection would be $183.98 a month without a promo that would eventually expire and it would have only 35 Mbps upload speed. And since I'm a current customer there is no promo for me. That is just insane when I see what others can get with fiber. I'm so jealous. What are you paying for Vexus?

It looks like for the time being I will have to keep close tabs on usage to stay under the cap or maybe drop my speed on Cox a little and use Tmobile/Verizon 5G to offload some of the usage.

I'll definitely keep checking for fiber ever being available.

After taxes, it's $57/mo for 400 mb/s down and upload.
