Getting a PS5 for my boys for Christmas (getting now so we don’t have to fight Christmas wipeout)? I’m unsure of all the types. I know there’s a a digital and regular console but not sure of specifics.

it does not play PS3 disc/digital games. you have to subscribe to one of the higher tiers of PlayStation Plus to access a very small PS3 library.

If they already have a PS3 with a decent game library of their own, just keep it with the PS5.

Digital vs Disc versions are the exact same in terms of performance. One just has a disc drive for games and movies (4k bluray) and the other doesn't.

let's be real, those 300 games are games no one has heard of that no one wants to play. if they did, they'd have more subscribers in those upper tiers of PS+.

You are also streaming the ps3 games on the ps plus so if you don't have a fast connection it may not work. Think it has to be 5mb sustained for it to work. I may be wrong about that though.
