Looking to get a gaming console for our nephews who are under 10 and looking for advice. The only requirement is that it needs to be able to hook up to the theater projector in the media room which I assume is hdmi inputs.

Can anyone offer any advice?

I would recommend the Nintendo Switch. Its HDMI and should hook up to a projector and is perfect for a 10 year. It is a rather new console so game selection is not quite as robust, but there should be enough to entertain them until more games arrive.

Also most of the games are prefect for kids.

Do your nephews just come to visit randomly? If so then a switch could be good as time goes on but finding one can be a pain. You seriously could invest in making those raspberry pi emulator. There is a thread here that gives pretty simple instructions. It's like 80 bucks (at most) and will have sooooo many games that your nephews will go insane.

I see them in stock at nearly every Wal-Mart, Target and Gamestop.

I'm an Amiibo collector and travel between Thibodaux/Houma area to Houston area every week. So always stopping and in stores looking for Amiibos.

Saying that, they are almost always on a shelf now. They aren't rare anymore.

Ah I didn't realize that! I guess I just got discouraged and saw some of the prices being jacked up. But still I think for a 10 year old I would make an easy set up with a bunch of games at once. But maybe I'm that person that buys awful wal-mart blinky light shoes instead of nikes for kids.

Its great for kids. The Switch might be my favorite gaming device over PC and PS4. But I do have a soft spot for Nintendo products and their IPs, hence why I collect Amiibos.

They just make fun games. Every game made by Nintendo is usually generally just a fun time and anyone can pick up the controller to jump right in. Generally the learning curve is very short.

Of course it is. That's why I want to get one. I was just wondering how much time the 10 year old will actually sit there and play it. Also with that Pi you can get NES/SNES and that should last for years and years!

I would even look into buying old gamecubes and all those mario party games. Those things were awesome. But if you are going for new and brand new then the switch is the way to go for sure

We play Mario Party games every month. Not scheduled but play it a few times every few weeks. The SO and I love Mario Party(even though she can't beat me). But everyone also loves Mario Party, it is fun to get 4 ppl in a room and play. We emulate on a PC and have the Wii U 4 port GB Controller to USB for controllers. Its awesome. Emulating those thigns really make the games look great since you can render at higher res and inject some AA and lighting effects.

We just play the Mario Party games 1-7. After that they start to get bad. My favorite one is Mario Party 5.

I need to get some emulation going for n64 (which I think is what you are talking about). And good lord I have never thought of using the WiiU port....I...Am...A...NEWB

Yeah works great. We just use the GameCube controllers for N64 emulation. Just have to remap the buttons.

Easy.

Yea that seems easy and nobody wants to use the n64 controllers.

Well we highjacked this thread but I think the answer would be switch if he can easily get one. Plus that kid would be able to brag to his friends for sure!

Well they are kind of pricey in new condition for the real Nintendo models. Also the N64 to USB is expensive too.
