Would be interesting. Nice change of pace from all the modern and futuristic FPS.

Ehhhh there is a reason they are so popular.
Battlefield just feels like the wrong series to go back all the way to WW1. I could maybe get if it was an offshoot like Hardline, but I can't see it with actual BF5.

Just finished DanCarlins episodes on WWI called "Blueprint for Amargeddon". A WWI shooter would be interesting, sounds awesome to live in your own shtt and dead bodies inside a trench for 10months.

Making a shooter true to the feel of WWI just wouldn't sell.

Glad you got my point. I’m in the BF is the better IP over COD but if anything WWI was a COD style war. Mow down your enemies, huge numbers of causalities for no good reason. WWI was unlike any war that has been fought; on the western front at less. Allies and Central powers had been at a stalemate for almost a year during Verdun. This would not make an affective video game which stays true to the type of style in which this war was fought. The game would be a shooter set in 1914-1916 with WWI weapons which wasn’t true to the war or a boring game which stays true to the war. WWI wasn’t based on the soldier’s or commander’s skill, but a true war of attrition.
The reason WWII games are popular is because this was a very mobile war. You had a chance to make a difference as a soldier or commander.

I just think that WWI deserves a story treatment, not making it a marketable shooter. The name escapes me but there was an indie title that handle this really well. But for me, WWI would do better as (sorry for the comparison because I can't think of anything else) a Last of Us style game, focus on one character trying to survive in this hopeless conflict, maybe on his own mission, along the way experiencing all the horrors that this war really was. WWII wasn't this pleasant little conflict either, but I think that one is easier to glamour up.

Not saying they can't make a good WWI shooter, but it's just not going to appeal to the mass market, which wouldn't really work out for the BF series.

Sidebar:
Has anyone played Verdun? It pops up on my suggested games in Steam but I've never tried it.

The feeling The Last of Us gave us is exactly the perfect comparison. Repeated lost, harsh conditions and the sense of we might have a world to go back to once done is pretty close to what those western front soldiers must have felt. Besides the Pacific, WWII sounds like a cake wake compared to living and fighting on the Western front during WWI.

With the plethora of shooters out there, I think there's a reason no major studio has tackled this war.

Will look into it.

I agree. WWI is going to attract a small, purist audience. Everyone else will abandon it once they realize how boring single-shot combat can be.

Valiant Hearts? Really enjoyed that game
