The problem is that their first party titles have such fiercely loyal fan bases, but the company itself has completely lost touch with the industry. They make hardware/gameplay functionality decisions like they're the only console out there, so no one will notice when they do stupid shite.

Splatoon is my favorite example. You can check to see if someone on your friends list is playing, and you can even play with them. The catch is that you're not guaranteed to be on the same squad every round. They have a dozen maps, and several multiplayer game modes, but they run on a 4 hour rotation. You're not guaranteed the ability to play the game mode you want, on your favorite maps if you just sit down at a random time and turn on the game.

It's not like they don't know about voting on the map during the load screen, because you can do that for Mario Kart 8. Clearly someone is aware of the concept.

They're also missing the ability to change loadouts between rounds without completely leaving the lobby of the game you're in. If you want to hange weapons, and you're playing with friends, you have to leave the party, go change equipment, find your friends, choose to join them, and them wait out the rest of the 3 minute round on a time out screen, if they've started another round while you've been gone. You would think if you're going to the trouble of creating a console with a second screen, then all of your games would incorporate the ability to use the screen for practical applications throughout your shiny new IP.

OH, and they don't have couch co-op, same one lame duel mode that no one plays.

They've totally lost touch with reality.
