I dropped the ball on getting a king cake today here locally in Alexandria at Atwood’s (amazing king cakes) and now I won’t be in town again before Super Bowl when they’re open. Going to Gonzales tomorrow for sons football game and really want a good filled king cake to bring home for super bowl. Any recs ?

Not in Gonzales but Oak Point in Central has my favorite king cake in town.

Gambino's
Reeves
Calandro's
Rouse's

In that order of preference.

Very interesting menu and not far off the route. May swing in there. I see I need to call ahead on the gourmet flavors. They look good.

I've found that the cake descriptions at Calandro's sound better than they are. They skimp on the fillings and many times the descriptions don't match what you get.

PJs coffee in Gonzales (hwy 30) sells Nonna Randazos. I’ve only gotten traditional but they might do flavors

Gills Grocery (formerly Tureaus) and Murray’s are pretty good.

Both are in St. Amant.

Would guess their cakes are identical to Alexander’s. Which are quite good

Oakpoint is the best in the greater Baton Rogue area, I'd take it over anything you can find anywhere.

Oakpoint. I agree. Not just because I make them 5 days a week, and I hate them because I don't do sweets. But we don't pipe the filling in. There is literally filling in every bite. So you don't miss out on it

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Bought a "Touchdown," "Little Italy," & "Mississippi Mud" last year for a party, and all three had barely any filling and were missing multiple items from their descriptions.

Yep, not sure how you make a red velvet king cake so poorly

Appreciate the feedback fellas. Ended up getting a friend to scoop one up at the local place here I wanted while I was out of town Got a pralines and cream filled one. Staying out of this box until the SuperBowl is going to be a serious test of willpower.
