Hackett's - for a plate lunch and some boudin. Menu changes everyday but they always have steak and gravy. On Friday there will be a shrimp entree as well

Botsky's - great hot dog place downtown. You and the wide could get one of their fancier dogs and the kids could get the basic dog with some crazy toppings. Sweet potato fries are a must for me here.

El tapatio - best tex mex in town. I like the enchiladas

Seafood Palace - standard seafood and Cajun food, but they do it well. I usually get the shrimp or catfish meal. Pretty good gumbo for a restaurant as well.

Tony's - my favorite pizza in town. Lots of pasta, salad, and other options as well. The reuben is the sleeper on the menu. Best one in town.

Jo Jo's China Bistro - not a buffet, but I think they use better ingredients than other Chinese places in town. House lo mein and a small hot & sour soup is my go to.

Lots of other good options but I'll leave that for others. I'll give you a few more in the morning if no else chimes in.

ETA: I'll vouch for darrell's as well. Great sandwiches and kid friendly during the day. I'm having a darrell's special for dinner tonight.

Had Darrell's for the first time yesterday, I now understand the hype. BBQ Beef w/ jalapeno mayo

My other favorites:
- Tia Juanita's
- Sloppy Taco
- Botsky's

I also hear good things about Victoria's Taqueria, Ball's Fried Chicken, and Tasterite...the last two are supposedly in not so great areas though.

Victoria's and Tasterite are two of my favorites, but I wouldn't call them family friendly. Ball's chicken is outstanding as well. The common street location is family friendly, especially at lunch.

Darrell's... order the special with jalapeño mayo. If your table isn't covered with 10,000 small wadded up beverage napkins you have not enjoyed the special

Really big fan of Darrell's, but did try Luna last week. Everyone enjoyed apps and meal. I got the:

THE URANUS
Grilled or fried pork loin, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, fried egg, avocado and jalapeno mayo.

Solid sandwich

Ball's Fried Chicken

Very good chicken but the thing I didn't like was when I went into the place, it was full of smoke. Like a bar full of people smoking smoke.

I'm guessing the oil was bad in the fryers?

The chicken was still good though. I loved how it's seasoned. Little zing to it.

There are two locations.

This was at the one on Enterprise Blvd, just south of I-10.

There's another one on Common, behind McNeese.

Peking Garden is the best in LC, IMO. It is a bit of a schlep up to Broad Street. Not sure if they're open for lunch though.

Calla's really good and open for lunch today! I also recommend Darrell's and Botsky's. It kills me I haven't been to Tasterite yet, but I hear good things. Cousin's is delicious too.

How much self-respect do you have?

If the answer is "not much", hit up Darrell's.

Anything more than "not much", hit up Luna.
