What are some of the most obscenely priced things you've seen in grocery stores?

Was in this hipsterish grocery store today and saw a 32 oz jar of mayo for over 18 dollars. Sir Kengington's brand. I'm sure it's decent but there is a limit on how good mayo should be and even a jar that large shouldn't be over 18.

For reference a 30 ounce jar of Duke's at my local HEB is $4.66 or 16 cents per ounce. I couldn't imagine paying almost 60 cents an ounce for mayo.

Another completely stupid item I saw today was a tiny jar of flavored almond butter for 3.55. The jar was so small I don't even know if you could actually get anything out of it. Had to be a tablespoon at best. You couldn't fit a teaspoon into the jar to scoop it out if you wanted to.

Back during crawfish season, a bag of Fritos we needed at Calandros was $8.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the product

But I'm not paying 18+ for a jar of mayo

I was in a convenient store earlier and noticed the price of chips in general has gotten pretty absurd

Considering the minimal nutrition value you get out of them it seems to be an awful deal

Even at Walmart, the price of snacks is ridiculous. Eating healthier is cheaper.

I believe it

I rarely buy non perishable foods of any kind. I just happened to notice the prices in the store and thought it was absurd

Back in March of this year I went shopping for a grill out we were having. I passed on a 3 pack of large ketchup containers because it was $11 and our household doesn’t eat much of it. So, I decided to hit up Winn Dixie on the way home to grab some other non-Sam’s items and scoop up one large container of ketchup.

Then, I saw the below. On principle I did not leave Winn Dixie with ketchup that day.

Wow, hard pass

I sometimes can find peanut oil here in Abu Dhabi which I use only for chick-fil-a sandwiches, which I can make dam near the exact same taste. Some US buds say they are better. Or, to fry a turkey which I only did twice here.

By far the most overpriced restaurant item these days. I have yet to see them that high at a grocer (I shop HEB as well).

I picked up 5 or 6 large ones at my local HEB a few weeks ago to mix into a shrimp alfredo for added flavor. Think were something around low $20/lb.

The answer is ground beef. Brisket prices are absurd too, if you calculate the price per pound of edible meat after cooking a brisket, it's often cheaper to eat a decent steak.

It's because I'm addicted. I dunno at what price point that they would price me out
