The Fed may compete with too hot/cold/wet/dry regarding crawfish prices.

Proposed regulation could hurt La. crawfish industry

quote:

Louisiana's crawfish industry could be in trouble if the federal government takes the advice of a nonprofit organization to regulate the red swamp crawfish.

The Center of Invasive Species Prevention recently petitioned the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to add the procambarus clarkii, better known as the red swamp crawfish or Louisiana crawfish, to the injurious wildlife list.

In the petition, the CISP says the red swamp crawfish and 42 other species don't provide "any essential economic or other benefits" that outweigh their current and potential harm to the United States.

quote:

"Ridiculously," Vitter wrote in the letter, "the inclusion of the red swamp crawfish on the list of injurious wildlife would result in the arrest and prosecution of thousands of Louisiana business owners."

Probably much ado about nothing but figured I share. Also this is pretty funny.

And in Scotland, anyone who catches a crawfish is legally required to kill it. Some Scottish streams are crawling with so many crawfish that a person cannot cross without stepping on dozens.

Guess we're paying $5/lb for live crawfish until Easter....

Maybe someone should go to Minnesota and show those yankees how to cook and eat crawfish.

What's really unfortunate is how until very recently it was too dry/hot for crawfish and now that this cold front is coming it's going to be way to wet/cold.

Wouldn't the slowing of demand allow for lower prices?

I know someone who almost got into a bunch of trouble for having live crawfish shipped into the state of Washington. Their DWF folks don't play around with that kind of stuff.
