Apparently, there is a shortage in Illinois.

With all the new pumpkin flavored drinks and snacks this could cause a serious problem/price increase for the holidays.

I saw a giant crate full of pumpkins outside Walmart this morning. They were going for 4 dollars apiece (large pumpkins). I don't know if that's a higher price than normal or not since I don't eat them. But it seems like if there was a shortage they would be inside the store.

Because Starbuck's is actually using real pumpkin for the first time this year in PSL.

The pumpkins grown to decorate your front porch are not the same pumpkins used in mass food products.

I saw a shitload of pumpkins in most of the exhibits at the San Diego zoo this weekend, apparently a lot of zoo animals eat pumpkins

the shortage is due to rain. or at least the shortage from our suppliers is. it really won't be too much of an issue.

yea pumpkins are a very specialized product. you aren't going to carve a pie pumpkin or bake a pie with a carving pumpkin. different sizes, colors, shapes, etc.

Why not? Do decoration pumpkins taste bad?

they aren't grown for taste. I've never tasted one, but they're grown for size and shape

I've did some pumpkin homefries with carving pumpkins for one of the TD Chopped competitions. Not the best thing. Not the worst thing, however. Pumpkins are just like any agricultural product. Different varieties are grown for different uses.
