Although a check valve is a good safety feature, where is the back pressure going to come from? It would have to exceed approx. 140 lbs to be any danger? Correct?
Well, the check valve is probably overkill for a 5lb tank. Gases can do some stupid stuff and the check valve would stop it from getting back to the tank. The cracking psi of the check could be anywhere from 1/3 - 100psi. We use 1 psi cracking checks inline on some sample systems to prevent any spillage when filing up a bottle. They’re a good safety feature but probably not really necessary for a standard propane tank.
