Cooked one last night. With a side of corn is one of my favorite cold weather stick to your ribs meals.

Looks like a stew to me. Why would you not call this a stew? What classifies a stew in your eyes? I think it all depends on where in Louisiana you are from. On the bayou, we would call that a stew..!

From looking at previous post, I've come to the conclusion that we live down the same street..!

One of my favorite childhood meals. I cooked it for my in-laws and they could not grasp the concept that it was a dish with potatoes AND rice. They stopped in route to our house and bought some fried chicken "just in case"....

Mom would put shrimp in it on occasion.

Looks great!

Stew is like a soup, but thicker. Requires no rice.

A gravy requires rice.

A soup or gumbo is thinner and rice is optional.

Somebody needs to tell the makers of chicken stew, beef stew, meatball stew, shrimp stew, crab stew and shrimp stew.

All with rice.

I make it like you would any stew but just a little loose. After the potatos are cooked smash a few of them to thicken the gravy. Cooked my potato about 25 minutes over a low fire.

There's a place in downtown Lafayette called Johnsons Butcheries'. They make some of the
best you've ever had. Problem is that with both potatoes and rice - you got about 15,000 carbs going on there.

Thats why the third compartment in my plate was empty and I did an extra 10 minutes on the ellyptical! It was worth it though.

I just thought you were one of those weird people on here who cant stand their food to touch. They all eat on divider plates like that.

i was just wondering what the carb count is on this dish?

OP- it still looks great and IWEI, but not for lunch at work. I'd fall asleep at my desk after.
