Yes get the involtini or ravioli.

Bring some pledge and a few dust rags. A light source is also recommended to read the menu but don't look around.

I like it well enough. It is old school

Pinettas was my go to date spot age 18 - 22 and I got laid a lot during those years. It's dark and the service is old school good. The red sauce is authentic and excellent.

I still go once in awhile. Bottle of Chianti in a wicker basket and spaghetti and meatballs. Fork in one hand, rolled up newspaper in the other to swat the roaches.

My parents went there when they were at LSU. Do they still close down to go to Italy or Sicily every year? Same family?

Absolutely. Very affordable, great atmosphere, and their red sauce is to die for.

Best red sauce in town. Not the original owners; in fact, I think a new woman took over pretty recently. They tend to overcook their German dishes but they have some unique offerings which is why I like it.

I don't know I had a large buzz when I wrote that. The servers were mostly old men and I got the impression they had been with the restaurant a long time though.

Maybe he was talking about their plating? Went last week and got lasagna. They cook in a skillet and bring to your table and plate the food in front of you.

Iirc there may have been table side serenades as well. Can someone else please confirm this it's been a while since I went to Pinettas

Not the original owners
They shut it down around 20 years ago. Then it sat empty for a few years. When it started back up the new owners used the same recipes and it was still very good, but I haven't been there in 15 years at least.
The amount of smoke grime covering everything was amazing but that was part of what made it Pinetta's.

old school
I love the place but it is the definition of old school. Was behind there peeing on the wall during St. Pat's two or three years ago and the chef walks out the back door. I slur out "sorry" as I keep peeing and he doesn't say a word but just pisses on the wall next to me. Walked straight back into the kitchen and I could see him through the open door stirring a pot on the stove. Did I mention he had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth the entire time?
