Ok how about the Chuck Wagon

Watching Aaron Franklins show on steaks he was talking to a guy about the original chuck wagon. Started in 1866 to drive cattle north after the Civil War and only lasted about 20 years until the railroads were built farther south eliminating the need for them. They were then primarily just used on ranches.
They were modified from Studebaker wagons which evolved into the Studebaker car company. The wagons the Budweiser Clydesdales pull are Studebaker Beer wagons circa 1900.
The cookie was second in command behind the trail boss and was cook, dentist, barber and banker. Mostly ate beans, sourdough biscuits and preserved meats unless an animal was injured and needed to be slaughtered.
I was surprised at the timeframe of 1866 -1886. For some reason I thought they were in existence long before this.
Franklin has a good show. Just found that interesting.

I would have thought so, too, but probably because we identify them with wagon trains and pioneer days, and the California gold rush. And actually they were created for cattle drives and cattle work.
