Need a good Italian/Mediterranean Pasta recipe

Anybody have a good recipe for a simple non-cream based pasta dish (think oil, garlic, veggies, herbs, pine nuts, etc.)? I've tried to do a few on my own and they always come out tasting closer to pastalaya than Italian/Mediterranean. This should be so easy, but I can't seem to find the right combination of spices and vegetables. Simple oil and garlic is a little too plain (although it has its merits). Any ideas?

try this. Onion, garlic, peppers, celery, tomatoes, black olives, red wine, herbs de provence. Forgot mushrooms, and use instead of spaghetti, it holds the liquids.
