Say you got some hamburger meat that is on its last day of expiration and you got some that has about a week left. You use them both in a pot of spaghetti. Does the cooking reset both batches back to zero as far as the longevity the cooked product will last? Or will the older batch taint the leftovers before the newer?

Ha! Maybe. I'd like to know the answer regardless.

I've always wondered the same thing. Especially with hot dogs and sausage. If you wait until right before expiration to throw them on the grill will they expire quicker than if you grill them the day you get them.

I doubt anyone on this board would know the answer and even if they did I don't think I would trust them to know.

You can pretty much go by the cooking process equaling the two out. Cooked beef will last about 7 days in the fridge.

Cooking will kill any bacteria present in the meat. So you will start from zero.

That's why I don't eat it. You can't kill death.
